I posted last year about how I stopped a teenager from shipping his $800 laptop to a fellow in Nigeria. Pretty much I saved that guy his laptop AND stopped him from being scammed.
Just the other day a guy came in asking to do Money Gram, stating he had never used it before and needed help. I noticed he was looking at his BlackBerry in order to gather the information of the recipient, so my instincts immediately activated. I figured he wouldn't have to do such a thing if he knew the person, right? So I ask him if he knows the person, he says no. He mentions he's sending $1200 to pay a for a laptop he has ordered from a guy in the UK. My 419 senses immediately went off, from reading this site I knew that the UK was/is an active scamming hub. I explained EVERYTHING to the guy, told him to report the dude immediately. Saved him $1200 and educated him on how to be careful in the future.
$2000 in scams stopped since 2010! Feels great.
Just wanted to share my recent moment with you guys. Working part-time at the post office seems to have its share of adventures. |
