This one is a actual tube radio, but one of the last ones produced in the 1960's in Japan for the North American market. But it is from the time transistor radios became common.

Is the casing a pink "Bakelite" Or a later inferior plastic?

It's plastic, unsure what kind. Not bakelite though. Bakelite was mainly used in radios during the late 30's to mid 50's.

This radio dates from early 60's as one of the last tube radios, already quite advanced from tube radios just 10 years earlier.

Nice radio Bart.I have some old radios myself,though I tend to lean toward old communications receivers.Have a Collins R390a with 26 tubes in it.Like they say,real radios glow in the dark.They can also be a great heat source on a cold night Laughing

Just be careful if you do, some of the capacitors likely need to be replaced. But there are TONS of resources on the web to get old radios fixed!! And that is a nice radio, what kind is it?

Never had a pink beaver, but I did have one of these when I was younger:

Only just recovered from the hernia I got carrying it upstairs.

eventually the capacitors went & the insulation on the tag strips started to break down. Couldn't afford to repair it at the time so it went in the bin. Sad
