One of my lads has a script that is (according to my mentor) unusual:

There is an interesting opening here for getting the lad off script: offer to pay for the funeral. Then ask for details, specific rites, photos etc.

I'm not going to do this, because I want to do other things. But it would be a pity to let this go to waste. So if anyone is interested, PM me and I will send the lad's first letter.

This puzzles me. You are into a business scam. Lad goes of topic with a funeral. Personally I think he just put in his backup plan in case business goes wrong. What's the opening here? If someone else steps in it will start with business again. How could he know about the funeral? It is up to you to explore or ignore.

^^ It just sounds like conroe has other things to do and does not want to continue the bait and is offering it up.

So what if it starts all over as a business proposition..........then it is just another bait........and the lad may or may not mention the funeral expenses.

If the lad does the funeral thing again, then that's a good thing. If not, we do the business thing.

If you are not interested in baiting him, then don't worry about it.

@Linoge: He doesn't go off script with the funeral. The funeral is part of the script.

I didn't go for the opening because organizing a funeral would be off script for me Laughing

I don't see anything unusual. It's part of his script so he can have an excuse to rush his victim. He is going to use the money from the business proposal to pay for the funeral. He won't want to keep his father on ice for very long. If he can't rush his victim then he has a excuse for not having money to pay the fees that will come up. The money he set aside to pay for the business expenses were used for the funeral. It's typical lad 101.

It also seems like an ironic reversal of some baiter tricks where we confront the Lads with an urgent medical bill or something similar.

I've baited lads with similar scripts. Next time I'll go the pay for the funeral route. What are they going to say no? They will of course need death certificates, recipts, copy of the obituary from the local paper... Sounds like weeks of lad derailment. Great thinking there Conroe!

If he doesn't mention the death then it will be a regular straight bait. If the guy stays on script and says the father died and, then I'll go that route.

@bravo95: it wasn't my idea, my mentor (Dr. Mike) suggested it.

I was just stalling the lad, telling him - as a well meaning and concerned friend - that he should take the time to mourn his dad properly instead of returning to business right away. The idea to offer instead to pay for the funeral struck me as (a) brilliant and (b) not something I wanted to do at this time. Hence this post.

I've now sent the starting mail to 4 people, so I guess the lad will be busy soon.

Quite simple Linoge you take this on as a straight bait, then if the funeral and the dad's death crop up, you take that storyline and carry on from there. Until then it is a straight bait.

Now that I have more particulars, it sounds like starting out with an investment lad bait and have I got an investment for him -- Dibley Manor here we come.

As Ghost said this tactic of the lad can be seen as lad 101. And when i look at it that way i have of course seen numerous numbers of sick relatives that fill that gap Ghost was talking about. To rush the bait and to be out of cash. And that is a tactic i use when i bait as well. But i have never seen a lad beg for money in such a way before, even though i am sure it has happened.

The way I read it, conroe was running a business scam. Then the lad goes off topic with the funeral, so he offers that part for others to explore while he continues with the business scam. That's why it had me puzzled, cause I just did not see how that would happen. Somebody picking up on only the funeral.
