Ok I can see the metric system will be pound into my brain rather I like it or not. I might as well quart my losses and choose to accept it.

I shan't be Rood about metric measurements but I'm not going to Hide my Bushel under a Barrel either.

Metrification just does my Firkin head in.

Since most of your puns are referring to the imperial system i fail to understand if you are for or against the metric system.

But as we all know PF is a senile old man who sticks to the "old" way just because!

And as Rooted pointed out the reasons are good. I mean who wouldn't wanna "marry the furlong to the mile" and get inch babies.

The metric system is logical. A thing the French actually got right...the only one when i come to think about it.

10 mm = 1 cm
100 cm = 1 m
1000m = 1 km

And one meter happens to be 1/10 000 000 of the way from the north pole to the equator.
Similar logic when using weight with the exception that the kilo is a made up unit.

The imperial system however.

12 inches = 1 foot
3 feet = 1 yard
1760 yards = 1 mile

And in between you have units like rod, chain and furlong.
1 furlong = 10 chains and = 220 yards, that is unless it is Sunday and a full moon. If that happens one chain equals 4,5 rods and 22 miles. And on easter you can buy 22 pounds eggs for the price of 2 stones.
It makes my metric eyes bleed.

No wonder you send $94 million Mars orbiters hurling through the atmosphere at terminal velocity just because some schmuck forgot that the rest of the world actually uses the metric system and didn't convert the data.

There are only three countries that still uses the imperial system as their primary or sole system of measurement: Burma, Liberia, and the United States of America. And two of them aren't exactly known for their democracy and political stability.

Many of us did not notice but many US industries - especially the automotive, aviation, and electronics sectors - quietly converted to metric during the 80s. It was necessary to keep competitive in European and Asian markets.

Also, the US Department of Defense maintains Standardization Agreements with most allies, especially in NATO, that compels DoD to use metric measurements and standards.

From this thread I have gained a ream of knowledge about measurement.
