I work in a office which does also Western Union Transfers. So through my job I get a lot of informations about the latest scam and help also some clueless customers if they like to send money and it's clear that's a scam. I find this site very helpful and it's a good job some of you are doing.

Now my question:
I get every week mails which are so clearly scam-mails that I delete them imidiatly, but if anybody is interested I could put some of them here in the forum and somebody could answer them and watch what happens.
I'm not so skillful and have also not the time to do it.
By the way I'm from Switzerland.

Examples are
-Lottery wins
-Business (transfer large amount of money)
-love interest (mostly russians)

In our company we have a good software programm which shows you also the history of every transfer which the customer did within a year. So sometimes we regocnise the scam maybe only at the third transfer.

One customer had already sent twice money to someone who he first claimed is his close friend, but after some questions we had another story alltogehter. The man had with another channel sent some money for a delivery of Wine which he didn't got. So this new scammers claimed to help the poor man to get his lost money back and he fell for it. We told him he should go to the Police.

Sometimes the customers are just lucky that they bring along the e-mails or they tell us the truth, so we see clearly that must be a scam.
A mother with her daughter was very dissapointet that they didn't have won 1'000'000.-- Euros at the spanish lotterie (even if they never had taken part in any lotterie before).

My collegue had a girl on the counter which got a job as a photo model. Her payment was around 800 Euros and see got 2000 Euros in Traveller Checks. She should send the 1200 Euros which she got to much to other girls via Western Union. Unfortunatly for the Scammers at our office you can cash the checks as well on the same time. So we found out that the checks were fakes and safed the girl a downpayment of 1200 Euros !

There are many more of such stories.

keep up the good work - we are all effective in different ways, I am sure yours is very rewarding

, even if only to offer advice from time to time as I guess there maybe some business ethics issues for you if you did some of the things we do with payments Twisted Evil

some people on here do not bait but invest time in educating groups of people by speaking to them about the various scams, maybe that is something you could think about doing in your community?

I guarantee, if you retitled this thread "Ask a WU employee anything" you'd very quickly become popular.

I'd really like to know, within the limits of what you're allowed to say, how WU flags a transaction. How does the system tell you that the person in front of you needs to fill out extra forms, or cannot make the money order? This would help us enormously with verisimilitude.

Might be good if this was behind a log in. Maybe a MOD can make that determination.

Maybe pschmidi would be the best judge of that. He/she may not want to/be able to answer other members questions.

I'm overhelmed that my post got so many answers right away.

I'm not sure if I can be of any help to you, as I don't work for WU itself, but for a company which does transfers with WU, so I have to look into it, if I got any information which I can give. And in my company and in Switzerland we have policies and laws which are maybe stricter than in other countries.

I look if I got time at my work if there are any helpful things and then I come back here and we'll see how I can post it, that the information is only helpful for scambaiters and not for the scammers.

What Information Transfers the MTCN

I mean, If i deposit $10USD and I made up a False WU-Document (to send to my scammer)
and i put in the Real MTCN can the receiver see what the amount is by the MTCN
