I'm a fan of Iain Banks as well, not so keen on his sci-fi work, but these are recommended

The Wasp Factory
The Crow Road
Espedair Street
Canal Dreams
Complicity
Whit

I've got The Bridge, Walking on Glass, and Song of Stone, but found them just a bit overdone and not all that coherent.

I like Bill Bryson as well Very Happy

@Cougar Agreed. I have tons of antique books, mostly all Bibles and Books of Common Prayer some of which over 100 yrs old which are wonderful examples of printing, binding at the time.

I have authenticated pages from a Geneva Bible which dates to 1560-1599 and pre-dated the King James Bible by about 50+ years. Currently those pages are on loan to an Anglican Church. This Geneva Bible is significant is because for the very first time, a mechanically printed, mass-produced Bible was made available directly to the general public . I was ecstatic to find the pages at a price I could afford (and it was not cheap)

I like Bill Bryson as well
and Pete McCarthy's travels around Ireland in "McCarthy's Bar" is worth a read

I agree about Iain Banks sci fi, I just couldn't get into The Alchemist at all

I've got piles of books inherited from my mum, then my dad that I keep meaning to work my way through
Like the Forsyte Saga for some reason my dad had several copies of the Galsworthy books
and I'm planning to read the Lawrence Durrell Alexandria Quartet soon not sure how old the copies are but at least one was priced in shillings and pence

^^
You've just reminded me about Tony Hawks' "Round Ireland with a fridge" It;s a laugh out loud read. Laughing

Iain Banks' "Wasp factory" was the first I read of his and to me, still the best.

Another good read is "Oro" by Cizia Zyke

Books.... Very Happy

May I suggest "The Scent of Roses in Winter". I am just starting it. Looks good.

Same author wrote "Handcuffed to a Corpse: German Intervention in the Balkans and on the Galician Front, 1914-1917 " and "Victory in the East"

Now get back to baiting, please.

^^I figured out the Hulu thing on Netflix and with limited commercials I don't have time to read during commercials. Cut down reading time.

The Big Burn by Timothy Eagan

An interesting treatise on the massive 1910 wildfire in the newly established North-West US and how it served to consolidate Teddy Rosevelt and Gifford Pinchot's visions on conservation and the creation of the US Forest Service.

Just starting the Riverworld series by Philip José Farmer.

I've been told they are very good, but I'm 6 pages in and the plot has barely started.

I haven't been reading a lot lately but have read the following:

Bless Me, Ultima- Rudolfo Anaya
I DO NOT recommend this book to anyone. In my top list of poorly written books ever made. Especially for those of you who don't know Spanish (let alone a particular dialect).

Now I'm currently reading:

Män som hatar kvinnor - Stieg Larsson (Known by English speakers as "Girl with the Dragon tattoo).
「やればできる」Yareba Dekiru (You can do it)- Todd Budge
Marekors (English speakers: The Devil's Star, Swedish: Djävulsstjärnan)- Jo Nesbø
