I am impressed by the breadth of knowledge/interests displayed here, and also by the sheer voracious appetite for reading. How do you all find the time??
@Rowenar, what is your opinion of Trudi Canavan's books? I am tempted by her magician's trilogy, but am always wary of new writers. (New to me, I mean). |

I forgot to mention I am a fan of the Arthurian Legends, Camelot, and of course Morgain! But I guess that goes without saying - and my very favorite book is the Mists of Avalon. |

I dunno, VM. Do you still read your stories from chiseled tablets or papyrus scrolls? Evolution, my man.
And just for the record -- reading the screen on a Kindle is just like reading a paper book -- you really don't notice anything but the story once you start reading. Really. |

A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn, who recently passed on.
Hit Parade by Lawrence Block. This is the third in Block's series about a professional hit man named Keller whose hobby is stamp collecting. Unlike those we encounter, this hit man does not send poorly worded emails to his victims and try to extort money from them.
Next up: Washington Rules by Andrew Bacevich |

^^ Ah, but it only looks like a book page as long as the battery lasts, or you have access to electricity.
There's nothing better than camping beyond the end of the road, in some small bach/crib/hut with a stock of books that have accumulated over the years, reading them by the fire light, or lazing on the beach
And when the power goes out, you can't use a kindle to start a fire |

^^Keep it in your pants. If you have matches, you can light your "Kindle" on fire and roast marshmallows but I don't know what idiot would do something like that.
Books I've read recently: Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. One of the worst books I have ever read and I would definitely NOT recommend it to ANYONE. Confusing, poor plot, excessive use of Spanish in which makes it more confusing to follow (if you don't speak Mexican [dialect] Spanish), and it jumped back and forth too much.
Books I'm currently reading: Män som hatar kvinnor by Stieg Larsson (Actual English meaning: "Men who hate women" but Americans wouldn't read it so the title was change to this: Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). |

Just a few of my favorite reasons for the Kindle: I know not everyone is convinced; however, I don't think regular books are capable of the following:
A Kindle is also capable of WiFi browsing.
I can store 3,500 books on the Kindle
There are over 1.8 million free, out-of-copyright books available.
Free samples of the books down loadable.
Over 600,000 for less than $9.
A new book in less than 60 seconds without getting out of my jammies.
Medically beneficial. Arthritics have trouble holding heavy books. A large print book is 2X as heavy as a Kindle which is about 8-10 oz.
Declining eyesight? -- make the font bigger without increasing weight of book.
Built in dictionary.
Wireless Access to Wikipedia
Kindle makes it easy to take personal documents with you, eliminating the need to print. Each Kindle has a unique and customizable e-mail address.
With the Text-to-Speech feature, Kindle can read English newspapers, magazines, blogs, and books out loud to you,
Transfer MP3 files to Kindle to play as background music while you read.
And during hurricane evacuation I will be taking my Kindle with 3,500 books with me whilst my others drown in the tidal surge and are lost to me forever.
Living in hurricane country I have a generator at the ready for the hydro so I will still be reading and computing.
It is not for everyone I know, but I don't use 8 track tapes, 16 mm movies, cameras with film, old-fashioned telephones (landlines), a b&w t.v, nor an old style Victrola, horse and buggy, et al. |

^^ Nope, not at all.
Does it really matter how peeps read, whether a paper book, an e-reader, their computer, or a cereal box? There are advantages and disadvantages to all forms. Reading is reading and is good for you no matter how you choose to do it.
Edited for grammar. |

It's a K3. I've been eyeing ebooks up for a while but held off when I knew this one was on it's way. Best thing I've bought since my Asus net book.
It's great, but I hope they develop the browser as it's a bit frisky when trying to do anything too complicated. I tried to post here with it and nearly set the forum on fire with multiple posts. Though I have sent and received emails without too much stress.
Calibre is essential if you have an e-book. |

There is something magical about holding a book, smelling the paper. If it's an old/antique book, it could also be held as an example of the bookmakers craft, and a tangible connection with all those who have previously read it and shared the experience of the story or the knowledge contained within.
But, I also see the advantages of a Kindle and, while for me it may not be as evocative, there is a practicality that can't be ignored. It's a big world, there's room for both in it.
Oh, and Windy?
