Good Day,
I am MasterBlaster. I have recently discover the world of scam baiting.
I did this by responding to one of my junk emails about collecting a lottery fund and found out how fun it is to waste the time of the scammer.
I made up fake western union transaction information and sent it to the scammer I sent him money through western union, and had him go down to collect the non-existent cash. I did this a few times before I got the message: "Thanks for wasting my time, I know you had fun......" He was right, I did have fun. I am now hooked.
I then found this site. I laughed so hard at some of the work here. I laughed my arse off at the recorded phone conversations. Some of the baits here are highly creative and entertaining.
To all of you I say, BRAVO! Your work is under appreciated.
I have some questions about the trade:
1) For time wasting, I noticed that some use the tactic of having the scammer build more and more ID and ways of verifying information. It does kill time to have them make this stuff, my thoughts are that it can be reused in another scam. In the long run, it saves them time. Is it not better to have them kill time by trying to sort out fake transfer information?
2) Has it been tried to gang up on a organization? I think it would be effective to identify a scammer group and then have several people from 419 flood them with fake responses and phone calls. A form of DOS attack.
3) What is a good email service that strips out my IP?
4) I plan on using skype or gmail chat. How do I ensure my privacy?
5) What is a good voice recorder?
6) what is a good voice modulator?
Below is the email transaction of my first bait. I removed my info.

Thank you for wasting my time. I know you really had fun............................

Welcome.
I noted something on the bait you posted. All the dates were 12/20.
On of the rules of the 419 thumb is not to answer every time they send you email. Wait a day or two. Patience is a virtue that lads hate as they want instantaneous.
Some of the questions you asked are located here on Eater. Read all the stickies for each forum and also read everything in Eater U. Get signed up with a mentor. |

Welcome to eater MasterBlaster! Ditto on what the above post said most of your questions are answered in stickies and in EaterU.
On question #1 I'm not exactly sure what your asking. Perhaps post a link of the thread where you saw this and we may be able to answer you better. We don't do anything that would help a scammer so there is probably a good explanation for what you read.
On question #2 I'm also not sure what your referring to as an "Orginization". Scammers do work in gangs sometimes lead by an Oga or boss. They are not really an organization though. They do use made up companies just like we do in baiting. Check out the fake bank threads for more info on how some of these are fought by Eater members. As far as DOS attacks that is illegal and not condoned here even if done to a scammer.
The rest of you questions are answered in the before mentioned threads.
Read the safe baiting info first. Have fun! |

welcome to eater. No. 1 Rule is to BAIT SAFE. A lot of baiters use gmail as it strips IPs and has some useful tools. |

Thanks for the responses. I have started reading through on the info here.
I will rephrase my first two questions:
1) Some people appear to make the lads create more and more fake certificates and other such items as a time wasting method. If the lad spends the time to create a fake ID, you waste his time initially, but he can reuse it in another scam. I am just wondering if it is not better to send them fake info and have them sort through it.
2) I don't mean a direct DOS attack through the internet. I mean organizing several baiters to contact the same lads (or group of lads) at the same time. Email, phone, etc. The idea being to flood them with fake contacts and completely waste their time. It is kind of like a DOS attack, as they won't be able to function. |

Welcome!
We don't invite lads to create fake certificates (they spam the internet with those and we try to educate potential victims not to fall for them). However, we create fake forms - applications for church membership etc. - and they hate to fill them out.
And after reading some of the baits here on the Eater, you will realize that a lot of mass, gang and horde baits are going on.
Have fun - and happy New year. |

@ MasterBlaster I am not sure I am reading your #2 post correctly and another baiter might be better able to answer it, but I am thinking you might be talking about a mass bait.
Some of us are currently involved in mass baits. You will find it behind a login at SCAMBAITING HELP, HINTS & TIPS. It is the jailbait one.
We started this mass bait back in November of this year. There are about 10 or so baiters actively baiting this barrister. We created a website for the bait and had the lad complete application forms and basically kept him busy writing to all of us so the church council would agree to give him money. Some baiters were "for" giving him the money to get a little boy out of jail, while others were ambiguous and still others down right negative about it. Some even wanted to send the money privately. I am using 2 of my characters who are roommates and do not agree on giving the barrister the money he wants. One "sister" of the church had a heart attack when the barrister sent some porn in an attachment; she is subsequently waiting for her experimental chipmunk heart transplant (Alvin being the chipmunk!)
We basically kept him going every which way but Sunday.
Let us know if that answers your ? or not.
Oh, and never ever send them a fake ID or esp a passport. I have never sent one although I did volunteer a (fake) non-photo library card once |

1) I think what you are referring to are some of the forms baiters have lads fill out. These are used to waste their time. Here is one that obviously wasted a ton of the lads time http://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=195409 I'm not sure how this would be re-used. As far as passports and other ID most baiters do not ask lads for these unless for a specific purpose. You are right these could and will be reused and that is why we never send them a fake passport we create. Once again your question could be better anserered if you can post a specific thread or post you are referring to.
2) We do gang up on the same lad and lads if it comes up. We refer to it as a mass bait see here for one of the current ones http://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=193595

Welcome MasterBlaster
A personal rule of mine and many other is never comply with a mugus request, on the first request.
Stupidity or insanity works for me. Like I think what the mugu really wants is a blank receipt. Upon sending when he asked what happened, simply say you honored his request.
Something people forget is you (the mark) can't actually tell what he received. Uh no you can’t, so insist you complied
And so on, a lot of time (a mugus sanity) can be burned up even following the most simple request. |

Ok, thanks I got the answers I was looking for.
Yes, mass baiting is what I am interested in getting involved with. Sounds like a lot of fun.
Thanks for the links, especially to the document generators will be plenty of fun. |

Great answers on this thread, but I think the most valuable is to delay, delay, delay! In fact a popular rule of thumb is to answer one question per email, one email per scammer per day. They hate it as they have to go from their pace (now, now, now) to yours (slow, slow, slow), which helps in the slow shift of power.
Rapport is built over time, and by being slow and consistent (if a little stupid at times) you appear to be a real victim, so the scammer invests in you and in wanting you to be a real victim. The initial power balance (him robbing you) slowly shifts to you (you yanking his chain) just by you using the same invented character tricks on him as he's trying to use on you. You just do it better. It's a skill to learn with practice, and is a great grounding in social engineering with a long list of capable, willing volunteers to experiment on. Once you are building real rapport with your scammer, you can start getting into some of the more exotic baits (like a good safari!) which no 24h lad will ever do for you, but a 3-month lad might
BTW, lads can check the validity of Western Union payments online, but not moneyGram. This makes MoneyGram more fun as they actually have to go to the shop...they come back whining, you let him stew for 24h or so, and resend the MTCN with a couple of digits transposed, and off he goes to the shop again. Then you sit and watch his ever more excited emails to you, and after a few days you come back saying you were <some excuse> and you hope he got the money ok as MoneyGram are saying it was collected ok... then you have a whole new story arc to play with... MoneyGram MTCN's are 8 digits instead of 10, fwiw. |

Not disputing this. I understand the concept of building a rapport.
However, in my mind, is it not just as effective to respond quickly and cause delays?
If I wait a few days, those are a few days where the lad is responding to other emails and potentially a real victum. If I can keep him busy full time for a one or two day period, I waste an entire one or two days of his time vs. a couple hours every few days.
I just feel more inclined to stay on top of the guy and screw with him as much as possible.
I do understand the concept of building a rapport, sending one of these lads on a safari seems highly entertaining. |

My question would be that we don't know how many of his emails are victims and how many are baiters.
Maybe get him involved with a mass or horde bait. There are examples on Eater. The mass Jailbait involved about 10 people and one scammer. To say the least we kept him busy for about 2 months.
If the scammer is looking for a big pay day from you, you can bait effectively by one question/one email per day. IMHO it seems to me that if you are constantly emailing him several times per day that you are not the one in control and you want to be the one in control at all times. |

@MasterBlaster:
Normally, you do want a day or so between emails. But--if you have a gmail account or yahoo account you can always chat with the lad. That builds up rapport very quickly.
Or phone calls. I've found that a quick phone call really hooks my bait (lad).
You asked earlier about that--from what I know, Skype can't be traced. It's a number you get, and so long as you set your preferences to personal, the lad can't track you down. In fact, my number shows up as "unknown" to them.
And the timing and frequency all depends upon your bait and the lad. I start off slow, and if he's nibbling and starts to bite, I have no problem at all with asking for his number and calling (or giving him my skype number). Or I will engage in a chat via google or yahoo.
All lads and baits are different. Some baits require a lot of patience, and others just a few emails and a phone call before you hook them.
I've found that a quick call does wonders.
EDIT: As Morgain Le Fay points out--you need to be in control and not the lad.YOU make the rules. And there is no simple answer so far as baiting. It all depends upon the lad, the scam, and what you feel comfortable doing. |

Truthfully bait how ever you like. There is no wrong way or right way. I think it is just the general concensis that it is better to royaly mind f them over a period of time. Sure if you have the time and want to do a two day around the clock marathon bait you will accomplish something but how long can you do that? You may have more free time than others and if do try it out for a while.
One thing to think about is lads are LAZY. They want to work as little as possible. Otherwise they would have a real job. So a slow prolonged bait keeps them thinking they have a pay day coming. They may not be spending several hours a day in the Internet cafe knowing a big payday is just around the corner.
Just start off straight baiting a while and try different things out. There is only so much we can tell you everything else is practice |
