This bait started Oct 25th and just recently petered out. I did get my goal trophy though! I'm 99% sure that we're done now, but I may continue to poke the lad as he seems to be both lazy and none too bright. I'm not worried about him reading this, as I've been posting this same bait elsewhere on the web.

OK, so let's begin!

It began with a lovely email from a lovely woman to my profile on BikerOrNot.com - a social network for motorcycle enthusiasts. BoN has seen a huge influx of these scammers over the past couple of months - I deleted about 1 day or so... but for some reason, this time, I had to do something back.

A quick look at the profile told me this was most likely a scammer that had not read my profile. I get about 1 or 2 of these a day, and for some reason, I really wanted to do something back. The end goal? To have he/she/it hold up a sign that says "I love BoN'ers" and have a photo taken so that I could post it here.

After my one line response back, the lad replies:

I started this bait with the belief that I should avoid IMs with this scammer. I wanted to control the flow of information as well as the narrative. However, to "set the hook", I would do one chat. I've since learned that's not the case, I just need to be on my game. So I sent a little prompt for a chat. Four hours later, I get the following (it was about 10 or 11PM Nigerian time... our little friend is up late at the Internet cafe!)...

And thus our chat ended. My next step was to move to email. Now I started this bait before I started reading 419eater and EaterU, so I started off with a Yahoo email. I didn't know about Yahoo using my IP address in the headers. That came to play later on.

So now I believe that I've got the con artist convinced that I've fallen for his shtick, so let's see where this goes in emails now.

Her first email to me was of a series of pictures that are similar in nature - they resemble the one in the first post above. Lovely girl, too bad her pics have been co-opted for this lad's use. I intend on submitting them to that love/romance site that keeps track of these sorts of things...

So after a week of back and forth - this is what I get. This has to be one of the worst Photoshop jobs I've seen in a LONG time. I had a feeling that the long delay between my email and my lad's response meant he was hard at work. Now notice how the text for the university is smudged - I'll give the lad this much, he put some effort into it, but this was just the worst hack job I've seen in a long, long time! These definitely belong in the Hall of Shame! (How do I send them there?)

And it's my BROTHER, not my Uncle. Is there something about Nigerian lads that they can't seem to think of brothers, just uncles?

The only other way to use Western Union is for someone - whoever is going to pick up the money - to go thru a security verification process online.

The other option is a direct bank transfer to YOUR bank account. Perhaps we could do it that way?
