I've acquired the name, address, and phone number of a scammer trying to get me to send money via western union in exchange for them shipping a car to me.

The details: car is posted in local autotrader (canada), seller claims to live in the UK but has left the car in Canada to be shipped to the buyer. He sent emails that claim to be from eBay, and wants me to pay $10 000 via Western Union. The IP addresses used are tracked to an apartment in Alexandria, VA, and I have a phone number of the recipient.

I'm new to this, and need some suggestions for how to really waste their time! I've already sent several emails discussion price, shipping logistics, but now that I have the address and phone number, I'd really like to mess with them Smile

Thanks!

Hi there, welcome.
He has your real name and address, he might come for a visit if you really p!$$ him off. Wink
Hardly ever happens, but we like to keep our members healthy.
Your local RCMP will know where to report him so they can try to catch him, which will give you the "shield" icon, , that everybody wants to have!

To entertain this friendly man, you might want to setup a gmail account with all fake info and start over again to get more evidence out of him and have some fun.

Read lots and ask questions, idiots like me spend their day answering them faster than you expected Smile

Cya, bait SAFE and have FUN

Edit: To do it right, drop all his info with our big sister scamwarners.com and you'll warn a lot of people.

How did you track an IP address to an apartment? Even if it's a dedicated IP, you typically are not going to be able to trace it down to that level--(additionally even if you had a true location, scammers are more than happy to use hacked servers for sending their scams, so the owner might not be involved.)

While another location is possible, the fake eBay "buyer protection" scam that you are talking about typically originates in Africa or Malaysia, not the US. If there is a mule in the US, he or she may be a willing accomplice, or he/she may be another victim who believes they have a "work from home" job.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to bait this scammer for more info, but if additional evidence shows that you are dealing with someone in the US, then the information is best placed in the hands of law enforcement.
