I used to live there - though more correctly Kibworth Beauchamp.

Not a murder, it was self defense. The other guy was chasing him with an ax with intent cause death.

I find it interesting that no-one thinks it was unusual that two guys had axes with them. One, fine - he meant to have a go at someone. But Wodard just happened to have one on him? Doesn't your vicar find it odd, all these people turning up with axes? Or was it the eqivalent of having mace in your handbag. (Not the weird spikey ball thing, the aerosol).

The nearby village of Hallaton has an annual bottle kicking competition, which isn't what you think. Two villages fight (literally) over a small barrel to take it back to their village to score a point. It's a more exciting version of cricket without any rules.

They don't use axes nowadays, I think.

<sigh> I miss the old days and real history. Here in NZ all their history started with Captain Cook. Honestly, the fuss they make about stuff they think is old. I've got socks older than that.

We don't have much either in anything historical. Just the Lobster Festival in July/August. People from all parts come to town, eat as much lobster as they can, go to a cheap ass fair, and watch the parade. Make sure you wave to this year's Sea Goddess!!

Talking of Medieval invasions. There's this beardy bloke where I live that goes around in seventeenth century dress. You know, those puss-in-boots boots, flowing cape and big floppy felt hat.
At first I thought he must work for some re-enactment type outfit or society, but it turns out that's his thing. Recently another one has appeared who wears the boots, capes and tri-pointed hat.

No wenches as yet. Sad

I recall when I went there I was the only person with long hair and my school blazer was green (my school colours being green and red Shocked

) and villagers crossed the road in fear as they'd only ever seen black school blazers before. It was a good thing they didn't attack me as I'd never have been able to hide.

We had to wear green and red caps up to age 16 too. I'm sure other schools got bonus points if they beat one of us up. Laughing
