I have been baiting an employment scammer (Wal-Mart Secret Shopper) for about two weeks now. The frustration she(?) has shown already is great. My character is a college aged bimbo (I mean that in the most endearing way) that is living in a house of horrors with housemates that abuse her and steal her mail. They have gotten her first paycheck, even! So my character has a friend that works for the bank and can quickly cash the check, no questions asked, to get the overpayment back to the employer right away once the check is recovered from the nasty housemate that stole it. She mentioned this to the employer and now all of a sudden I was offered a job "more befitting"... my guess is mass check cashing?
Anyway, on to my question - the scammer is using Gmail and so is my character so the only IP addresses I can see are internal ones. I cannot get a location on this person. But she has asked if my character has Yahoo messenger. Is there any way you can gather IP information through messenger? I'm not sure if she is going to try to get mine or if there is a way for me to get hers. I'm going to try to get her to e-mail me from her Yahoo account (won't that give me a traceable IP?) but she is pretty suspicious of me as it is. (My guess is the smell of money is the only reason she's offering this new job.)
I have signed up for a mentor, btw (and got TheLovelyJill) .... |

Yep, when on any chat program you are connected to that other computer and in windows you can use a file named netstat.exe, make a batch file in notepad
Quote: |
c:\windows\system32\netstat -n
pause |
and safe it as XXX.BAT so you can run it from your desktop while chatting with him.
You'll get something like this
Quote: |
C:\>c:\windows\system32\netstat -n

To get his IP a bit easier with less risk you can sent him an email through http://www.readnotify.com/ and you'll know where he is.

Thanks, Bill! I have created the file and played with it a bit already.
I did get him to mail me from his Yahoo account, though, and unless Lagos has suddenly jumped shipped and became part of the UK this person lied to me.
I'm going to chat with him tonight and see what his "more befitting job" is for me. It will be interesting. He does seem a little smarter than some of the others I've read about on here. Very good grasp of the English language for the most part as well as pretty technologically savvy. I'll see what I can do. Hopefully if nothing else I can waste time although a piggy would be nice. |
