an offer of 22 million arrived in my mailbox today. deceased, no next of kin, blablabla... but the name of the contact person attracted my attention.
mr. gerard robbert martinus sebastiaan. these are four first names.
googled and found this
www.paspoortinformatie.nl/dsresource?objectid=4646&type=pdf
it's info in dutch how passports are used electronically to identify people. the name is fake and there is no photo.
the scammer thought himself smart not to use the last name, as that would have given him away to dutch people. |

the script in english is awful as well. so his market is confined to non-native english speakers. for the rest it's a classic, though he sent his 'offer' with the same script for a much lower amount as well. just a rookie, i guess...? |

The Surname is on that pdf-page though - I guess he was too stupid to understand that van N1euwenhu1zen is a Dutch name (or he was too lazy to type it !)
ETA : this page is pretty specific. I wonder where or how this lad got it ?... |

the last name would have given him away to dutchies and is easy googleable. in lad-land it is not unheard of to just use a couple of 'western' first names to sign with.
the mentioned website is government stuff; at the home page, i found the subject 'paspoort' and clicking on it, it showed an image of a dutch passport, but with a photo, same first and last name! it does say "specimen", though.
i suppose the scammer has some basic knowledge of the dutch language. otherwise he could never have found this website. |

There is a quite substantial Nigerian community in Belgium and in the Netherlands. I suppose some of them who know the tricks of the trade, try scamming from their new homeland too, or bring back some newly acquired knowledge to their own country.
And - at least in Belgium - if they have gone through some regularisation procedure to obtain a residence permit, they may have some knowledge about where the governmental and other "useful" sites are ! |

the mentioned site is .nl, and even i didn't know it existed. but dutchies who go to their municipality-site to get info about passports for travelling purposes, get the advice to visit www.paspoortinformatie.nl
there's also a large community of ghanese in amsterdam and it is said that the 3rd generation of scammers is learning the trade now. these kids have been to school, being born in the netherlands. but the script is african, with all the usual mistakes.
judging by the fact that the 'name' scored rather poorly by google, it is safe to assume he's new to the trade. |
