hey, I'm new to this. I just thought I'd say hi and introduce myself. I'm reading through all the old posts to figure out whats going on, but I really like the idea of defending against scammers. It's nice to see a little Karma sending things back to those who would hurt others.

I also enjoyed reading all of Shivers stories in the letter archive. I'm assuming todays scammers have grown wise to that stuff though, as they are all 2005.

Not at all!

Today's scammers tend to be a bit more jumpy than before (they might ask for smaller amounts and bail on you at the slightest hint of trouble), but the same tricks still work time and time again.

It takes great skill and effort to pull-off a Shiver-esque bait, but it's sure not impossible.

Hello and welcome! Some lads are harder to bait than in 2005, but that's a good thing - baiting makes lads more jumpy and nervous, meaning they're more likely to drop real victims before payday. It's why we do what we do Smile

Hopefully you'll stick around and have a go yourself? If you're feeling uncertain, join our mentoring programme where you'll get <strike>some idiot or other</strike> an experienced baiter buddy who'll walk beside you to get you confident Smile

Welcome Weston! There are plenty of unsuspecting lads out there willing to be baited. It is however not as easy as the masters like Shivers and others make it look. The thread Raga mentioned is a great example and here is a shamless plug for one I am working on.

Lads aren't really smarter than they were in 2005. Every time they come up with a new angle, I've observed that the members of this forum collectively find at least four different ways to bait it. And if you haven't noticed already, greed almost always trumps common sense.

I posted my email in a few guestbooks and i have a lot of these emails now.

How do you keep track of your lads? I have made a separate folder for each one, but i still have trouble sorting out the different emails especially when they create a lawer and a bank i have to email.

I'm trying to get the guy to sign up for a $60,000 photography scholarship.

Making a separate folder is a good idea but what you will likely find is that you need to limit the number of lads you work on at any one time. What that number is will be determined by the amount of time and interest you have. Once you sign a few guestbooks, there is no way to keep up with the volume of scam emails you will receive.

When I want to get new baits started, I reply to 15-20 scam emails (I usually prefer the "next of kin" format) and straight-bait them by playing a willing victim. I look for those scammers who seem most eager to play with me and after a couple of weeks I whittle the original 15-20 down to 3 or 4 and drop the rest.
