Hey everybody! Glad I found the site, always up for a good harrasment of scumbags. I used to run an ebay biz, completed about 35K transactions, so I have seen it all. I got dozens of crazy offer, emails etc every week trying to hack my ebay account, paypal, etc. I have also seen a couple REALLY good ones I almost clicked on. I can see how they get so many people.

So now I am trying to buy a boat, scanning local websites, and ran accross the typical ad I used to see on ebay, but now on Craigslist, item worth $20K for sale for $2900. I recognized the scam and decided I wanted to phuck with the guy. This knot-head says he had to go work on an oil rig in the Gulf! HA HA Um....hey stupid, dont you realize oil workers are loosing jobs left and right down there? I responded that I wanted to buy it right away, hes supposed to email me the details of how the transaction will work. I am not sure what to do next to mess with him the best, any ideas for a newbie?

Thanks! Spur

Happy to have you with us!

Make sure you bait safe (no RL information) and have a look around on the site for inspiration.
There's lots of ways to waste the scammers' time. For example ask him a lot of questions about the boat, have him fill out forms, take pictures, ...

What does that mean?

It stands for real life information. Don't let him know your name, hometown, real phone number, etc.
And if you use a Gmail account to bait, it won't send out your IP address, which means nobody can find out where you sent the e-mail from. Although scammers probably don't that very often.

Indeed, it's never a good idea to bait from an email account tied to your real life. Always make up some fake details and go for it!

Welcome to eater! Pull up a chair, read a mentor, get a sticky, etc.

^^ you can bait him from a new e-mail address, just send him an opening e-mail saying "I'm interested, tell me more"

Gee I am sooooo suprised this came from him. LOL And this supposed boat was listed in Knoxville, TN.

Yes, I have blocked his email to mine.

"Before I left the city I had prearranged the deal with eBay Motors so my presence in town isn't necessary. The PONTOON is in their possession in New York, NY ready for delivery. You will have 5 days to test drive and inspect the PONTOON. So if you want to make this deal I need the following information:
Your full name and address
Shipping address (street, city, zip code)
Phone #
Then I will forward them to eBay Motors and I will precede the order. eBay will contact you with all the details that you need to complete this deal and also to see that I am covered by them and that I am legit seller.
Here is how this deal will work:
1. I will forward the details of our transaction to the eBay Buyer Protection.
2. They will process the paperwork and will email you the Payment Invoice and the transaction details.
3. You will have to submit the payment so you can prove that you are a serious buyer, as instructed to one of the eBay agents.
4. The payment will be verified and if everything is OK, eBay will deliver the vehicle to your address on my own cost. The vehicle will be shipped insured to your location with Dependable Auto Shippers.
5. After you receive it, you will have 5 days to inspect and test drive the vehicle (You will receive the PONTOON in 2 days).
6. If you accept the vehicle by confirming to eBay, they will release me the money (if not you will receive the full refund of the amount sent before shipping). They will then FedEx overnight the signed title to you and all the PONTOON documents that you need to register it under your name. If you decide to NOT accept the vehicle for any reason, they will refund your full payment price within 48 hours. They will then make the necessary arrangement to have the vehicle picked back up by the transport company."

Remember that you have to use the new e-mail from the gmail website, and not from an email client such as Outlook Express, Microsoft Mail or Thunderbird. Otherwise your actual IP address (four numbers that tells where is your provider server, henceforth where you are approximately located) will be attached to your mail. E-commerce scammers might be more techy savy that the average lad.

Personally I would never buy a boat without seeing the bottom hull first.
Let's see if he can find credible pictures of that detail for that particular model he's trying to sell.

Is it fitted with a flux capacitor?
Does it have a sun roof?
What is its barnacle density?
Is it fitted with a periscope?

etc etc

I hope the pontoon has the v-12 supercharged Rolls Royce engine, 2000 HP model. You want that baby to fly! Can it fly? Smile

It better have Styrofoam lined ballast and a Doppler 2000 radar. A thermoelastic membrane on the inner hull of the pontoons is also a must.

Hes trying his hardest to force me to use his fake ebay system to pay for the boat. I need to think of more questions for him.

So a very small victory for me. I had asked my new friend for more pictures of the boat, he sent me a link to photobucket. The album had small expensive tractors, classic cars, boats, etc in it. OBVIOUSLY a cache of stolen photos to use all over the web. I reported the album to photobucket with the emails I got from him, and got this in return a minute ago!

"Dear xxxx xxxx,

The images have been removed.

You may need to clear your browser's cache or temporary internet files and then refresh the page where you had viewed the images to avoid seeing an older cached version of the images from before they were removed by us."
