Computer help needed DVD player not recognised

For some reason my dvd player decided to stop working and I cant fix it. The error is:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

I googled the code 39 but it wants me to fiddle in the registry wich i'd rather not do yet. (nobody to blame if i screw up Laughing

)

Any easy solutions? Idiot proof if possible

Locate the driver on the manufacturer website and re-install.

You should be able to find the manufacturer of the drive by checking the device manager. If it is a recent version of windows the device manager might have a driver ugrade button or some such.

I'd look for the website of the DVD player manufacturer. Most companies provide a way for you to download drivers for their hardware, so if you look around there for the specific model you're running, you should be able to download a driver executable to replace the missing/corrupted ones you have.

Alternatively, you could post/PM the make/model of the dvd player and I could do all that for you Very Happy

sorry, I tried that, but it wants me to download firmware and not drivers. What is te diffrence?

Thats the stuff you want! It includes the drivers. It's an all-in-one package for your drive.

You could uninstall also and let the plug and play do the work when it recognizes the "new" drive.

Ah ok, i thought it was another dodgy malware thing

I tried the uninstall thing, but it couldn't detect any newer software, so that didn't work

Please close other applications....

Also check out the readme. It may be your drive is fried and may need to be removed/reinstalled!

I know, its like the manual that gets tossed out with the box. It's still in shrink wrap. Laughing

Ok, closed everything and still doesn't work. Deleted old drivers and it still doesn't work. Tried to install this shit in safe mode and guess what? still doesnt work. Everytime i get the exact same thing as in the picture

That makes no sense. did you completely "uninstall" the drive from the system? Try that and a restart. The machine's plug and play should " find new hardware" and install the appropriate drivers. I remember having something similar happen a few years ago and I almost threw the computer out the window. We can also appeal to others who might be on right now.

This is how i removed them:

system>device>dvd/cd rom thing> right click and uninstall.

BUT i just went and looked and now the dvd device is back in the list but still with the error message!???

also did all the windows updates thought that couldn't hurt

It's a driver problem.

Completely uninstall the driver. Use CCleaner to clean out any left over files from the registry:

Reinstall drivers.

yes he is but it didn't work. after rebooting the comp said new hardware detected, but it went straight back to the error in the OP.

It's only half a dozen steps and you can back up the registry for when you screw things up.

Couldn't he just restore to the previous day? That should undo damage as well yes?

Klaasvaak: Do you have a yellow exclamation mark in device manager (apparaatbeheer) ?

If so try this:

Click Start, then Run (uitvoeren)
Type: regedit
Drill down the tree to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Note: There are a lot of keys starting with 4D36E... and ending with ...E10318, be careful to find the correct one.

Find the two Multi-String values named UpperFilters and LowerFilters and blank out their values.
Sometimes only one of those two strings are present, so don't worry if you only find UpperFilters for example.

Reboot the computer and see what it gives Wink

The problem is caused by drivers installed by burning software (updates). Most issues come with Roxio software but I've seen it with Nero, Ashampoo, etc ... as well.
