A friend in the East Coast has been looking for a job as a nanny through some site, and we are all a little baffled about what seems to be a rather dangerous scam:

Here some of the mails she¨s forwarded me. I actually need help on this one, as the Safari could end up being in America itself.

Hi Jan
Thanks so much for your quick reply. I read your description and your family sounds like a good fit for me.

Here are my responses to your requirements:

1) You must be able to speak English Language..
I was born and raised in the USA! I scored in the top .5% of the country when I took my SAT, and tutor SAT and reading and writing skills to people of all ages. I also speak conversational xxxxxx and fluent xxxx.

2)Is your boy friend or Husband in support of this position for you.
Yes, I have a long-distance boyfriend living in xxxxxxxx

3) hours you re needed 9am-3pm
That sounds perfect. I'd also be willing to work nights and weekends, help with household tasks, etc., as needed.

Full name: xxxxxxx
Mailing Address: 1xxxxxxxx
Cell phone: xxxxxxxxxx

..............................Kindly Fill out the Application Form
below.........................

1.Are you interested in a full or part-time position?

I'm interested in working at least 30 hours a week.

2.Do u Swim: ( Its just an added Advantage..)

Yes.

3.Are you First Aid and CPR certified?? ( Its just an added Advantage..)
Yes, I'm certified by the Red Cross.

4.Do you smoke??

No.

5.Age: 19

6.Do you have any criminal records:

No.

I'm a little confused though as your sittercity post says that you are in New York, but your email mentions that you are based in Alabama. Does this mean that your family is planning on moving to New York soon?

Then we have this situation. "Jane Doe" sends a cheque, expecting my friend to re send most of the cashed money to some other agent.

Quote:

Hello,

Good Morning and How was your Nite? Make sure you have the check
deposited to your acct today and let me know once you have the check
deposited to your acct..I'll be waiting to hear from you soon..Pls
take care and have a nice day ahead..

Thank You.

Jane.

Then our ladette gets angry and switches to ALLCAPS:

Your friend should immediately stop correspondence with this scammer as they know her real address, etc. This is totally a scam and definitely not a legitimate job - all the hallmarks of "scam" are there.

The scammer may or may not really be in the US (most likely not) - and is putting on the pressure because they want to receive money before the check is revealed to be fake (sometimes it can take a while).

Edit - if you wish to bait this scammer, you need to start totally fresh, respond to the advertisement with completely false ("baiting") details. Make sure there is no connection to your friend's correspondence with the scammer.

THIS IS A SCAM. I too have been corresponding with Jane about a nanny job and have received numerous emails almost identical to the ones posted. Supposedly, I received a check from her husband's "client" while they are on a European cruise. I am supposed to deposit the check in my bank. After deducting $600.00 for my first week's salary, I am to wire transfer the remaining amount (over $2000) to Jane's "agent" in Austin, Texas. She pushes for you to complete the wire transfer the day after the deposit is made. The catch is, most banks will honor the check and put the funds into your account within 1-2 business days. However, eventually, your bank will find out that the check is no good and will deduct the amount from your account. By then, you have already wired a couple of thousand to the agent ......... you are out the cash ...

So you got the details of the "agent" back account? Then check out this thread for info on closing scammer bank accounts: http://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=145589

You can see from the way he/she is writing that his/her first language isn't English....." boy friend or Husband" is just poor grammar....EVEN for someone who speaks English. I doubt they are in the USA, but I'd report them all the same.
