I am looking for name suggestions for an incredibly sweet cat my shelter took in a few weeks ago--I held off on naming him because he was near death and we really didn't know if he would pull through. However, he has slowly been recovering, and was able to have surgery yesterday to remove his front leg and horribly infected tail.
The ironic part of the situation is that his injuries were not caused by a car, or another animal, or any kind of accident. They were caused by a collar. He got his leg caught in the collar, and from his injuries, it is likely that he spent a few weeks outside with the collar stuck around his neck and leg. Of course there was no ID and nobody to claim him, but he is an absolute darling of a lap cat. A simple breakaway cat collar could have prevented all that he went through 
So, I am opening up the floor here (and among my shelter volunteers) for a suitable name after all he has been through... |

What an awful story. Cat collars can be lethal if they don't stretch or snap in an emergency. I'm so glad kitty is on the mend - she is clearly a fighter and is determined to live, so if she were mine I would give her a dignified name to honour her courage! (I must stop drinking triple strength espressos - they seem to affect the drivel I write ..  )
Do you have a pic of her?  Sometimes names just leap out don't they. In the meantime, how about ...

If the cat is one solid color, just name him after his color. We used to have one that was mostly grey, his name was Grey Cat (sadly he ran off)
We still have White Cat. Guess what color she is??
Otherwise I like to give boring people names like Bob, Carl, Dave, etc.
Glad though he's gonna make it. I don't believe in any kind of collars for cats. |

I like the name "Eight", but with an international flavor. How about "Ocho".
Maybe call him Tequilla.

This is kitty a week after we got him, when I was sending him into a foster home. Suffice it to say that I didn't bother to take pics when he first arrived because I wouldn't be able to post them anywhere due to the gore factor. The vet didn't want to do surgery yet as they feared he was still too week to survive the anesthesia. Can you tell which leg had to be removed?
We get around 2000 cats a year--I'm very used to the naming sites--just want something special for this one. |
