I've heard digilante before but can't remember where. I personally really dislike being referred to as a vigilante or digilante. What we are capable of doing anonymously and via email is far short of actual justice for what they've done to victims.

Also, from wiki:

I think the word digilante was used in a news story about 419eater a few years back.While the word vigilante has negative connotations,it has never really bothered me that much being used in reference to what we do.For all intents,no real law enforcement of government agency is doing much of anything about the 419 problem.What we do via e mail falls short of real justice,but right now it's about all we got.

I beg to differ with those who say we fall short of justice.
We mess their minds up. And that can be more effective than any

The idea of prison as a punishment is appealing to most people. However, the real purpose of prison is to remove the criminal from society and give him the opportunity to learn to return to society without reoffending. At least this is the ideal of prison.

I think we fulfil that task admirably. We may not actually remove him from society, but we do utilise his time so that he has less opportunity to perform scams. We also re-educate (or is that de-educate) him so that his proven methods of scamming seem to not work as well any more.

I think we can prove this by noting that lads are asking for less money per scam, are becoming very shy and often run at the first sign of doubt by a victim, are often reluctant to give out bank account numbers and in other ways are less effective as scammers.

I agree that our results are less than perfect, and I, too, would enjoy seeing the lads properly punished for their crimes. However, we do have results and even our long established criminal justice system can claim no more.

@Brainiac: Yes, what we do does have an effect. However, it's not justice, they deserve much worse. Via ScamWarners, I called a victim to warn her that she was being scammed. I found out that this woman in her 70's has lost all of her money, her home and her husband committed suicide last year over their financial problems. What can we do to the lad? Bait him and kill his fake sites. That's hardly justice for what he's done.

It's good to remind ourselves that lads have absolutely no scruples whatsoever. They don't care who they hurt or how they do it. It doesn't matter one jot to them if people kill themselves because they've lost everything, or end up bankrupt and in ruins because of their scamming.

Ima that makes me boil.

Ima, I am well aware of the new lows that lads will sink to.

I told one I had to smother Granny with a pillow till she quit wiggling.
Of course his response, send the money. They well deserve all the
painful tattoos and getting stredded, safaris, and all else we can inflict.

Me, I prefer the ritual curses and psychological torture. When I get done with them, if I've done it right they should sleep with one eye open, and a night-light, shaking in fear for the remainder of their miserable existences.

That's right, I bring in magic and superstition whenever possible.
Minimum, their boxes are hacked, EVERYONE is reading their mail and
a few shadowy figures know EXACTLY where they live...
