Hello, I`m new.
I have been having some fun with scammers as I was selling a mobile phone on Gumtree and the amount of requests to send the phone to Nigeria, for more than the asking price, were unreal.
I have had one going on for a few days and have just had my first threat.

Welcome to the forum eyeball2. If these scammers have your RL details I would drop them immediately. Our number 1 rule here is BAIT SAFE, ie: set up a fictious baiting email or two. Then read Eater U and the stickies in each forum and if you want to, apply for a mentor. |

Thanks for the reply.
I am in the proccess of shutting down my old email address and transfering the important stuff (and Facebook) to my new one.
And anyway I hav emoved house since I opened the old email address anyway
I have meant to do this for a while as I have too many emails for Fake Viagra/rolexes/phones anyway. |

Eyeball2 - Keep in mind that the idea behind safe baiting is to have one e-mail account which is 100% used for baiting with no real information involving the "real" you.
Your remark that you are shutting down an account and transferring stuff to a new e-mail account has led me to believe that you intend to use one account for both personal info and for baiting....please don't!
There is no limitation on how many e-mail accounts you can have. Use one for personal stuff, with "real" information. Then set up a totally bogus account using googlemail or fastmail - fake name, fake everything, and use it for baiting.

First of all - Welcome to Eater
I'm sort of new here myself, but I the account issue here:
1 - NEVER bait from your 'official' account(s)
2 - NEVER even respond from your catcher account
3 - Bait only from anonymous accounts
As to 1 - Do NOT bait if don't know the difference between 'official' and anonymous accounts.
As to 2 - Your catcher account is of course anonymous, and the reason for not responding from it is that the lads should never have the chance to spam it in revenge - I got my first hitlad by sending a 'polite' reply from my catcher account - that's a couple of years ago and I'm still alive, it was a big mistake.
As to 3 - Create them as you like, delete them as you like.
As to 2 and 3 - NEVER use a name that can linked to you in any way.
Make sure you read the tips link.

Thanks all.
I sort of fell into it selling a genuine phone on Gumtree and I couldnt help myself taking one for a ride.
Unfortunatly this was my daily email.
I have transferred everything away from it and opened another.
I already have a spam email and I should have used that.
I have just emailed him that I posted it (after an apolagy) to his address.
Unfortunatly due to my dyslexia I think I got the address a little wrong.

Welcome eyeball2. I am glad you recognized the scam that came your way.
Yes, safety is #1 for yourself and for others.
What you have been advised about is setting up an account solely for baiting and a separate account for personal use.
You can always copy and paste scam emails into from your real account to your baiting account (scrubbing real account information) to get a bait going from the dung that comes into your real account.
