I never knew this baiting lark could be so much fun! My first successful (i.e. longer than a dozen or so emails) bait has grown to epic proportions, with a cast of characters and storyline to rival a soap opera. Three months so far, and still going strong.
To cut a l-o-n-g story short, it's a refugee/inheritance scam. Together with another baiter, we've set up a charity fund to help the poor young lady in distress and she can see the total in her fund rising on a fake church website as the parishioners run bring-and-buy sales, underwater pumpkin cutting competitions, etc. on her behalf.
The first lot of money, sent to pay "lawyer's fees", was eventually sent by post. Unfortunately, all that was received by my lad was an envelope, apparently opened and resealed by the Post Office, with an official-looking slip inside saying that it had been found insecure in the post. The thing is, he hasn't had the heart to tell me, so he's said he's both received the money and paid off the lawyer! Well worth the cost of a stamp to Burkina Faso.
I can't even start to tell you all the fun we've had, what with parishioners sending proposals of marriage, supposedly virus-infected computers sending naughty photos of their own accord to the lad's "Reverend" character, and messages left on YAK numbers by our lad. So far, we've closed down a fake bank website and reported no less than three bank accounts to Alan.
The next stage will be the completion of university application forms and a suitably silly "English Test" to show our lad's commitment to studying in the UK.
My, oh my. Once you get a lad well and truly hooked, the possibilities are endless!
Half the fun is in sharing our lad's pain, so I'll probably publish the bait in due course. Thanks to all at 419eater for your guidance, help and inspiration! |
