I suppose I could bump it to 2gb but it'd be a waste of ram that I could be using on my Cisco Qemu. v.v

it's a VM.

host box is core i5-750, 4gb ddr3, 512mb nvidia gts 250.

edit: running mac OS X; i have a copy of 7 but my new project is ze Hackint0sh.

i use it as a web server, cisco simulator, crappy mac games machine, file server.

waste?
nah.. it takes a lot of ram to run multiple virtual cisco routers. i'm currently trying to find a way to incorporate my video card (perhaps via CUDA) into my kernel emulation.

Your setup looks sweet.

I got a good deal for RAM and I loaded up. I haven't max it out YET, and I probably won't. I think 24 gigs of RAM is plenty for now.

i've been looking into risers lately... it seems like good ddr3 risers are hard to come by. i might have to wait a while to get 24gb of ram in this beast Very Happy

i don't even manage to use all 4gb of my ram at a time though.. even still, i've got my swap on my other hard drive (two 10k RPM raptorX's Very Happy

) to give me whatever small boost i need when the random 64mb pages start flying.

edit:

oh hey, have you heard of Monolingual? It's pretty cool... it removes all the extra languages (you can select which ones) and processor architectures (most universal apps come with a ton of different PowerPC architectures and the ARM architecture, which you don't need if you have an Intel Mac).
from your apps and system folders..

it frees up a few gigs of space on your hard drive ... i don't think it makes much of a difference in terms of performance but why waste the space on stuff you really don't need?

it's open source... available on sourceforge.

My first "computer" had 2Kb of ram (yes, 2048 bytes!). Of which 75% used up by system software and resources.
