Hey gang, this baiting is so fun.... hope to post some trophies soon. mine might be really cool if they pan out.

question for you. i do want to call my lads on skype because it would be wickedly fun. i know when i call my mobile phone with skype the generic skype number comes up on call display "10000123456".

to set up skype, i had to give my personal information (name, address, credit card info) for the billing page to make payment on skype. for the account info page, i used an account name and the first name/last name that were generic and do not have any personal details.

ideally i would have my call display set to "unknown". do you guys know of any way to do this?

is there anyway the scammer can get your personal details from skype?

I use Skype (I'm in the US) and have never had a problem. I used all fake info to sign up, but they have my PayPal info, to pay for minutes. Everyone I call, friend or foe, only see the fake details I gave Skype. For a lad to get your personal information would be a chore, it's possible, but I wouldn't lose sleep over it. (It would involve subpoenas to Skype, PayPal, and other legal wrangling.) You have a better chance of being struck by lightning than being hunted down by a lad, but anything is possible.)

I see that you paid them directly with a CC, I would assume that information would also require a subpoena to obtain. As long as your profile is all fake, you have no worries,

i think you are right... very little exposure with skype.

did you ever find a way to change your callerid? or do you just keep it as the default "10000123456"?

I have no idea. Some lads have complained that my "number" didn't show up, I just ignored them or blamed it on their phone. I never lost a bait because of it, and I've made a ton of calls for myself and other baiters.

Edit: Word to the wise. If you ever switch to Linux, specifically Linux Mint 8 or 9, getting a microphone to work with Skype is a bitch.

^^ Oh that's a coincidence.. I just installed Skype on Ubuntu 10.04LTS (booting from an USB stick as it is a company laptop I don't want to ruin anything on Wink

) and had some trouble getting the built-in mic or an external mic to work in Skype.

I've just spend an hour wondering why I couldn't see any text on my Gnome desktop. Finally worked out that when I was trying to build Gnome from source I upgraded pango to version 1.6. Gtk only liked 1.2 so had to revert.

Yes Skype is great, but don't spend all your cash calling lads, that's not really the point?
You can get an old mobile with free sim card, you don't even have to register it to get incoming calls, it's pretty anonymous, then make them waste money calling you on your network.

I think there's a setting either in the preferences to not show your number or personal info, or when you log into Skype's web site and change a setting there.

[edit: Mine is for a landline and internet number. Settings could be different for mobiles]

how do you guys record your skype calls? i found a program called call graph... but i'm not sure if i need to go that far just to record the calls.
