However in today's world reliant on technology for the basics of everyday life, increasing levels of solar activity and the flares from the consequent 'space storm' could wreak complete havoc.

Nasa is telling us to prepare for a once in a generation storm which could result in widespread blackouts and leave us without critical communication signals for considerable periods of time.

The overheating of national power grids, mass disruption of air travel and the complete shut down of electronic items, navigation devices and major satellites are just some of the consequences of the sun reaching its maximum power in only a few years time.

As well as this, the bolt of lightning caused by the super storm could bring disastrous consequences for the world emergency service systems, hospital equipment and of course would leave us without our computers, sat navs and ipods.

The worst case scenario would see large parts of the world plunged into darkness for months

Most likely say senior scientists it will last hours and maybe days but this in a world reliant on high tech systems for almost everything we do is likely to have a drastic impact.

Aaargh run to the hills!

Having lived through the blackouts of the 70s miners strike I've made sure we have at least one open fire, altenative means of cooking, ie camping stoves, lots of candles and technically I still own a generator ( son and pal have possession, but if you cant get fuel from the pumps to power it its going to be useless )
We have wind up torches and lanterns.
So I'll be ok for heat and light.
Entertainment might be a problem if there's no tv, internet.
I may have to talk to the family

Well, if i survive the end of the world as we know it, i'll be baiting the old fashioned way: sending my letters with pigeons. I think my baits will last much longer then, and i finally can put a sand timer icon in my sig area. Very Happy

Ah well, at least I can still use the word processor to work on my novel without getting distracted. In a world without more hi-tech entertainment, it might actually stand a chance of getting published too, hehe Very Happy

I have heard microwaving your wireless router and Modem (cable, DSL, what have you) will "acilmate" your equipment for the coming radiation storm.

You know if they would not have shot anti-matter into the sun from the Haldron Collider we wouldn't have the hole in Guatemala city and an unstable star next door... Laughing

I need to consult with the experts of all things zombie to find out if zombies are attracted to tin foil. I heard that some are and some aren't.

I was looking to Steward to protect me from all of these bad things, but now that he is gone, I feel so <strike>naked</strike> vulnerable.

I'm going to have to look for some firewood and sticks and candles. Maybe I should raise goats again. They can keep you warn too! I sure hope zombies don't like goats....
