Western Union waste of time?

Hi all,

When scammers ask me to send them money via western union i used to give them a fake MTC number thinking they would waste their time going to the office in Lagos or wherever in person with a fake number but I think they check the number via western union website. Am I correct or do they rather go in person? What is the best way to waste their time?

Hi Nancy. That's the problem with westy transfers. I wouldn't use them anyway. It's a known fact Gomer Boiz are working there so it has to be MoneyGram for 100% safe and secure transfers, that can't be tracked online. Wink

They can check it online. I am not sure that they all know how to do this, but I am sure that some do.

they can check that onlie, so that's no fun.
I talk them in to going to moneygramm, but they seem to check that by phone nowadays. So I divert event further and go for a bank account for our friend Alan
I think that my best stalling work is before we ever get to the money question, once that question is asked I kinda loose interest Confused

Each has his own game and fun though

Hi Nancy!

Welcome to the Eater!

Western Union, indeed, offers web transfer status & checking. But very similar and popular amongst scammers company is MoneyGram. It's basically the same as Western Union, but they dont have status of transfer on their website, so scammer needs to go to MoneyGram office and check it personally.

However, lads are sometimes clever enough, to convince you to use western union instead. To solve this, I usually say I am from small city called (enter some small city without western union office name) and the closest office is MoneyGram.

If MoneyGram fails you can always ask for bank account giving you nice little piggy to your signature. Wink

Also, some sort of general hints: Read the stickies, they are on top of each category, also Eater university at the bottom of the forum index is great source of information. Assign for a mentor, bait safe and have fun!

Windy's on the ball here - you need to use MoneyGram instead. Luckily there's a MoneyGram up the road from you, but the nearest Westy is a long drive, so you only go to that town once a week.

Personally I wouldnt even mention I go to that distant town.
I would just stick with saying "Moneygram is close, western union far."

I live 4 hours drive from my nearest Western union, and I only to to town once a month for supplies. So obviously I could not get there in the time frame requested, but I also had a lot of trouble with the bank transfer. You know the cheeky prick remembered the date I was 'traveling' to town and told me so. So I had no excuse not to visit the western union shop.

Little prick must have had a sticky note on the side of his computer or some shit, how he remembered that fact when I didnt has me beat. Anyways, because I have the organisational skills of a gnat, I cocked the WU transfer right up. Looks like he will have to wait another month before I go back. I wonder if he will remember the date I am going this time!!!

Yeah really. I can think of a million reasons to not be able to get to town:

flat tire,
dead battery,
lost car keys,
got into accident - car totalled,
got roaring drunk & passed out,
got roaring drunk - picked up by cops - spent 2 days in drunk tank,
got better offer from hooker - spent week in sleazy motel,
car stolen,
car towed for 500 unpaid tickets - can't afford impound fee,
car towed by repo men - missed last 6 payments,
alien abduction,
flood/tornado/radioactive monsters,
car recalled - now in the shop waiting for parts,
inspection sticker ran out - can't drive for fear of getting ticket,
lent car to friend who (start list over from top),
etc., etc.

I was in the army and on rare occassions be late for work.
My excuse: I was witness to a terrible car accident. The police wanted statements, the media was there they wanted statements. The survivors wanted details. I could not leave the scene of an accident.

I am very shaken up. ... Boss asks are you okay to work. Yes sir I'm tough I'm a soldier. It worked every time. I never said I need to return home but it was offered.
