Would suggest you contact said University I.T department and let them know. It's possible that they either have a student there who is being a bit naughty, or that they have been hacked.

But 'invalid keycode', perhaps the scammer sent it to his University pal in the US to try out first. Or maybe the hit came from some kind of bot.
