Hi, I'm new here, I've known about 419 eater for a while and have had a good laugh at some of the email scams thrown at me...but I recently got an email that was weird.

Following is the text:

Hello,

I came across your site and thought it was great. After reviewing the
following page:[my website]

I had a few questions about adding links on your site. This is a very simple
implementation. We will pay you immediately, please get back to me if you are
interested.

Thanks,
Caitlin

I did a quick search online for "MSO Marketing" which usually gives me a pretty good idea of whether or not it's a scam, it turned up a site http://msomarketing.com/
which only has one link and that's a "privacy policy"

I haven't found anything relating to a MSO marketing on 419 eater or anywhere. My friend purpotedly got a similar email a while ago but she hasn't updated her website in years and it's not very impressive.

I'm not sure whether or not this is a scam or just a really badly run company, they seem to have my website, but they could have gotten that from online somewhere. I'm afraid to reply because they have contacted my email that I actually use.

Please advise.

Thanks!

Hi Altoids7 and welcome to Eater. That has to be the worst website i've ever seen. Looking at the page source code tells me the main image is from somewhere called Music@l Her1tage. The Meta Tags, ( Search engine friendly words about your site that are buried in the code) Is all about mattresses, beds, bedroom furniture ETC. Looks very suspicious to me.

This is all i could find so far :-

You could create a "throw-away" free email address and reply to them that way. Since your friend also received an email, maybe the sender sent a mass mailing and doesn't really know all the addresses he/she sent messages to. This scenario does sound vaguely familiar, will do some research, also

ah, I never even thought of looking at the images sources, though I did check the page source.

The person hasn't emailed me again so I have just ignored it, the website is what really made me suspicious. You're probably right about the mass emails though I'm not sure what exactly this is.

Thanks for your help!

Am I looking at the same site?

I got a flash based thing with no metatags and heaps of links, a lot of which go nowhere. I'm also seeing that the pages are listed as index-1.html, index-2.html

Looks flashy (pardon the pun), but I have my doubts about it's authenticity
