Psst, Corona, that is John Wooden the basketball coaching legend.
I was watching the Women's College World Series softball tournament and UCLA was playing Hawai'i. They were interviewing someone from UCLA (a former coach) and made a comment about Wooden getting well soon. Then the crawl said he was doing well at the hospital. I guess the crawl was wrong.
I didn't know he was 99...

John Wooden was the last of a breed. He actually expected his players to be students first and basketball players second and would not tolerate star players. He was the star. In this respect, only Bobby Knight could compare with him. He probably would have been happy to teach English and coach on the side for free.
Unlike Bobby, though, John Wooden managed to win ten championships without choking players, tossing chairs across the court, badgering officials, or baiting the media.
ETA: I don't know how Corona could confuse him with Woody Allen. Coach Wooden never slept with his wife's stepdaughter. |
