I don't mean to necro this thread, but I think this is an important follow up.
The same lady contacted me again this week at work, having received a rather stern "final notice" from the scammer. She was probably still 99% convinced that it was a scam, but the fact she dropped me a line proved to me that 1% was still alive in her mind. I turned her over to a scamwarner who got in touch with her right away, and within an hour she emailed me again to say how relieved she was. Hopefully that did the trick on the last niggle of doubt she still had. If not, at least she has demonstrated the inclination to reach out if she's not sure, so that's a good thing.
My point is that there are people who still want to believe, despite all evidence to the contrary -- it doesn't matter if they're smart or not, or even if the scam is a good one or poorly done. And in these economic times, I'm thinking that people who would otherwise recognize a scam for what it is are now vulnerable.  Fortunately we have the good people over at Scamwarners who are loaded with compassion and patience and do everything they can to help people understand. ::shout out to Scamwarners::
