A very disorganized scammer. Wow...

So, I'm doing a nice little bait with someone in Abidjan. Several things make this disorganized:

First, she sent me multiple copies of the same script in separate emails. Not too bad. Asks me to contact a bank. After playing dumb for a day or so and asking tons of questions, I do. (Early in the bait, don't wanna piss her off too much.)

Second, the bank executive sends me a blank email with a forged passport and a wire transfer form as attachments. Nothing has been mentioned about me sending money anywhere, nothing about traveling anywhere. I am actually legitimately confused now. I send an email to the banker asking what I'm supposed to do.

Third, I get a script back FOR AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT SCAM. Different names, different situation, different everything.

I'm gonna sleep on this (it's 4:30 am. I SHOULD sleep now, right? ... right?) but I think a big slapping is in order tomorrow. Do you think it'd be too early (only 6-7 emails sent total so far) to say something like, "What are you running here, some kind of scam? Who are these people you're referencing? My confidence is severely shaken. I want to know what's going on. Now." I've never even mentioned the word "scam" during a bait before, but this seems like an perfect opportunity.

But really... has anyone ever run across a scam like this? They can't get a damn thing right. Oh, this is going to be fun, fun, fun...

On the contrary : congratulations are in order. De-educate him on how well he runs his business and how impressed you are by how organized he his. He does not need to change anything to the way he works.

New scammer species:

The Forgetful (Memoria tohellicum): Scammer who forgets they have already sent you a script you have replied to and then sends it again. Then sends you completely unrelated alternate script.

Oh, I see the angle you're coming at. You're saying I shouldn't help make him a better scammer. If I don't complains about being sent the wrong script, he will continue to be disorganized and potentially send the wrong script out to an actual victim.

Good idea. Instead of slapping him, I will tell him I am impressed with how professional he has been.

Precisely! In your baiting, look for other opportunities to de-educate. Compliment on your lad's impeccable English, even if he can't put together two words to save his life. Don't mention the fact that a REAL businessman/lawyer/gold dust salesman would never use a Yahoo address. Stuff like that.

I've had more than one lad threaten me with arrest by the FIB Rolling Eyes
