Evening troops,

Recently I changed phones and today for the first time put my old sim card (which I had not been using for several weeks) into my new phone only to find 6 new voice mails.. I listened to the first one and to my disbelieve heard a mugu telling me his name was "A!-!/\/\ed O5mAn" from something something enterprises in..

"Ghana Accra.. Eh Accra Ghana... We have 450 Kilos of something (couldn’t make it out but gold or diamonds of something) to 'go down' - (I wonder what he means there!), if your interested please call me back on +233XXXXXXXXX thank you and god bless you"

This first message was left at the start of last week and there was five more similar messages left through out the week. The strange thing here is that this is my personal real life number. I always use flextel (070) numbers when "conversing" with these "gentlemen" so I was very concerned to just where the hell this guy got my number from!

Anyway as the sim was back in my phone today and turned on he actually got through to me this afternoon and didn’t seem too happy about me not returning his calls!
When I tried to ask him where he cot my number from he just kept asking if I was interested in helping him get "some goods" Shocked out of Ghana!

Eventually He told me that "a gentleman" gave him my number and said I could help him! It took a bit of talking over him and screaming down the phone at him to get him to shut up and listen to me before he tells me that (from what I could make out) a "Mr Ken" gave him my number Hmmm.. Now a lad called Ken from Accra.. could that be Ken Wilson (one of the diplomats, sorry: DOPLOMAT! from Shivers Bonnie Scotland bait?! I wish!

He was really trying hard to keep control of the conversation, but I was having none of it! I gave him my email to take on the role of rich and moronic Glasgow businessman, Charles Elderslie! He then said he would send me an email to explain and then asked me to call him back to discus... I don’t think so Ah/\/\eD!! Smile I managed to get him to agree to call me at 10:00 UK time tomorrow morning.. GAME ON!!! Very Happy

So does anyone have any idea how he got my number? Are the lads now turning to initiating scams over the phone these days?

Is there a chance you slipped on one of your baits? I know I've nearly given my actual name and telephone number in mock-signatures rather than my baiter's name and phone-number. Perhaps one slipped under the radar?

^^ seconded.

I sugest you look over all your baiting emails, these things happen. Also, simply hang up to any calls you get from the guy. Make it clear you know it's a scam and he won't bother wasting his time.

Did you direct the flextel number to your personal mobile at any time. Flextel does allow you to divert to your own 'phone and activate your own personal answering service. Did you do that by accident at some time?

Hi guys,

Maybe I could have put my real number down by mistake somewhere. But a friend told me recently that lads in Nigeria where using sites like this: http://www.chahaoma.net/NPhoneCode-0771-937.html - search your uk mobile number on google and chances are you will find it on a site like this! I've no idea why this informations is publicly viewable on the web?! But I heard that they sometimes ring random numbers like this to try to start scams but didn’t think 419 scams are being started this way.

Anyway a "Mr BrAi/\/\oh KeNn3Dy" emailed me this morning...

I wait to hear your response shortly,

Best regards,

Looks like mr mugu has forgot that the name he used on the phone was "A!-!/\/\ed O5mAn" and not "Mr BrAi/\/\oh KeNn3Dy"! Looks like he wants me to fly out to inspect the gold! Any tips about a reply?

Leeting scammers names totally makes reading some baits difficult. If you are going to post a bait in "General" and the scammer has an unusual name why not just change his first name or change a single character to a numeral.
