I just learned that a friend of mine, who I had not seen in a couple of years, was killed after being T-boned on his motorcycle by a drunk driver, last Sunday. At the same time, I learned his funeral was yesterday. I don't have the words to describe how I felt about this man. He helped me cope with a very difficult time in my life, even though he had been through something far more devastating. He ducked out of his daughter's prom to come and support me when I performed in the last belly dance show I ever did before I was unable to continue with it. I never saw a frown on his face, not even after a 12 hour shift at the company we both worked at.

The world is short one more caring soul, thanks to a pig-headed drunk who thought he was "OK to drive".

I am sorry for your loss Weasel. The summer of my sophomore year in college I called up a good friend's house and asked to talk to William. His mother hung up on me. She did it to me twice more and then the phone went busy. I called a mutual friend and asked her what was going on. She told me that William had come back from Stanford 2 weeks before, had gotten on a motorcycle owned by her cousin, rode it around the block and never returned. A drunk in a truck killed him while he was waiting for the light to change. The funeral was the week before and she had assumed that I knew. Wow was I angry.

Something that helped me was to write down all the things that I would have liked to have said at his funeral. Maybe you might consider doing the same.

I am soooo sorry to hear that. Please accept my best wishes for you and your friend's family and an eternal life of pain for that selfish bastard who thought on only himself when he got drunk and went behind a wheel to murder some innocent.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the Mods over becoming political, I'm not a hang 'em and flog 'em person, but I think that the penalties for drunk driving are not harsh enough. The pity is that drunk drivers often end up harming others rather than themselves.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to find out where he was buried and visit. It's the only thing I can do, now. His biker friends rode 160 miles for him, Saturday.

^ All that is so recognisable for me. Been there, done that, but i'm still alive. I'm lucky i guess. I have a patch on my jacket which says: bikers don't kill, they get killed.
I'll pass it on into the biker community in Europe.
