The Lad is hoping that you will believe this, and go to Western Union to collect your $5000. When you get there, however, the WU staff will tell you that there is no record of this transfer to you.
The Lad then expects you to write back to him, and tell him of this problem. And then he will 'sort it out' for you. And he will discover that you need to send him a fee...... |

It is your first time to use western union so therefore none can blame you. It is always like this at the first experience. - Yes lad, and at the second, and the third... you'll see.
I don't want to guess the number - But, lad, isn't that the best fun to be had with MoneyGram reference numbers? |

This may not be the most exciting baiting opportunity but there is no reason why you couldn't bait it.
I would be interested to see his reply if you told him you were able to pick up the money
Playing along of course would be a better way to bait it, when you get to the money request all of the usual options are there for you. |

Haha yeah that would be cool to tell him I went to the local Western Onion and did, in fact, get the money! I didn't think of that, but I'm sure he would probably just drop me. Who knows?
Branwen was right, as usual!
This is part of the message I got back from my inquiry:
The problem right now is because the transaction has stayed over two weeks on the system, it has been deactivated and as such it needs to be re-activated before you can be able to pick it up. Remember, it is $5,000.00 USD daily until the full compensation amount has been paid to you. Please understand that re-activating the transaction will cost you $100.00 USD.
Yeah, probably not the most creative scam I've seen, but we'll see where it goes! |
