I got an email stranded in London been robbed need to pay hotel email this morning from a business acquaintance of some ten years.

His mac.com account had been hijacked with email password changed.
His address book had been used hence my email. The message I got had a Lagos location.

What happened next is what makes this interesting. As soon as I recieved the first email I sent him a message on his business email address with
the message contents and headers.

I then called him at work and was surprised the email had not reached him. His business spam filters had intercepted the message when it saw the Nigerian IP address in the body of the message. It gets better.

He told me that he managed to get his password restored The WEB master for mac.com me.com knows my friend personally. But he was surprised he had no new messages for several hours.

I pointed out that I has sent a bait message after he had restored the password and I had recieved a response.

It that point I sent a "testing" email to my friend at his mac. com email address. It didn't arrive or bounce. The scammers hacked the server
and set email forwarding on the server, that's why he was not seeing anything come in.

This one is over but it is possible that there may be other mac.com and me.com accounts that have been scammed.

Don't know. I've never had a problem with my me (previously .mac) account.

I don't think the scammers hacked the server. Maybe hacked into his account and changed his user settings?

If he has a iDisk, I'd have him check those settings.

Thanks for the heads-up. I rarely use my .me account, but will keep an eye on it.

After the day he had I would believe that is probably more likely and he was being less than his normally clear self.
