Is the scammer's facebook profile still up?
If it has their E-mail address on it, I could try baiting them to see if they use the same script on me.
Can't guarantee your friend will accept that as evidence that it's a scam, but if the evidence against the scammer keeps on mounting up, then hopefully his doubts will just keep growing.
Even if he stays in touch with the scammer, hopefully he'll talk about his suspicions in a way that'll force the scammer to veer off their script to try and reassure him. That's when they start to make mistakes.

Not much of a plan, but it's the only one I can think of at the moment...

As Mr T.B said, the outcome is just one of many slight variations of an all too common scam. Nailgunner, you could try it talking lad to lad, but don't hold out too much hope. An alternative might be to try and 'muscle' the lad off your maga - victim.

You could pass on as much info as you have to the romance baiters who have volunteered to try and get a bite out of the lad.

It's going to be very difficult for you, and very painful for your friend to have his warm lovely bubble burst. Lads make me sick. Best of luck.

And of course she did not show up at the airport. And he has lost some money to buy the flightticket, and some other expenses - but it was not so much money. But again - it should not happened at all.

But the good news is that my friend has decided to "dump" her.

I think that he has realized that he has been scammed, but maybe he is to ashamed to talk about it yet.

Glad he finally saw what was going on. It's time like this that friends need friends most.

Need to warn him to be careful of other types of scams. Now that this scammer has realised that he's a potential paying target, they will want to get back in contact and leeching off him again as soon as possible.
Tell him about recovery scams and so on, maybe even get him to change his E-mail so they can't reach him anymore.

And if you ever get the scammer's E-mail addresses, post them up here if you feel like subjecting them to some mental trauma Wink

Quada, now is the time to tell your friend he was not stupid and that a lot of intelligent people fall for love scammers. Just be there ready to listen if he wants that.
