I'm a newbie. While I admire the work of you folks, at this stage in my life I probably don't have the time for true baiting.

But today I got this email:

I will be in Chicago from May 15- 18 and between 24-29 May I will be in

This strikes me as too good an opportunity to pass up.

I'd appreciate any advice. I'd even be happy to hand this one over to a pro, if that is possible. I plan to be out of the U.S. in late May anyway, though I could delay the trip for sufficient reasons..

I would advice against meeting up. For one obvious reason, you don't really know who you are meeting up with, and find yourself in a nasty situation.

Also most likely, the scammer is not even in the same country, so he wouldn't even show. But the biggest threat of course is that he might send some of his 'associates' and that again could be a very bad outcome for you.

Thanks, but have no fear, I wouldn't dream of getting within a stone's throw of the guy.
But I have good telephoto camera equipment and would like to get his photo posted.

I was thinking about staging a faux meeting at the Washington Monument for that purpose.

And I had a fantasy that "the authorities" (FBI?) might be interested in meeting a lad, if it were only a few blocks from their headquarters.

Lads are notoriously lazy ( and massive liars). Chances of this lad , or indeed one of his mates actually turning up are about 0.5% of fork hall.

By all means push for a meet, and maybe, if the gods really love you, then it might happen. Just don't hold your breath!

However i like the idea of the Washington monument. Lots of cover for getting pics. Webcams are another fave so that all the members can see your lad live- IF he turns up.

Do a little googling around for a DC webcam and arrange to meet him there. Obviously, you won't show up but then he won't know that, will he? Very Happy

Here is another option... A few years back, my wife was attending a conference in DC and I went with her. I had time to kill so I walked around the capitol complex just seeing the sights. I came across a protester camped out in front of the Supreme Court. She had all manner of posters and things spread out around her. I walked past and glanced at her stuff. I didn't care to engage her in conversation but I was curious about some of her things so I turned around and walked past her again. When I turned around again to head back in my original direction I discovered that several security people had taken notice of my presence and started to close in on me. Obviously, they were sensing the potential for trouble. I mean, these people came out of the freakin' woodwork! They do a hell of job of concealing themselves. My point is, if you can get this punk to put himself in a position to be perceived as a potential problem, security will be all over him. Even if you don't get it on camera, it could cause him a lot of grief and maybe a good lad-blast or two. Very Happy

EDIT: I just did some checking around for a viable web cam in the DC area. Couldn't find any live feed cam that was actually working and showed enough detail to be worth a damn - unless you want to climb in the Panda exhibit at the National Zoo!

There is quite a few good locations in DC to have a "meet" plenty of cams around.. and areas in DC which he may not want to go in.

for security to jump on him there are locations you could have him "meet" you at.. a good place is infront of the Senate/House office buildings like R@yburn - have him hold a sign - always some fun..

I found a bunch of web sites that claimed to have live web cams but almost none of them were working. I do you think could get him trouble with the security people, though. Maybe have him carry something that looks like it might hold a rifle and then have him hang around the White House. Twisted Evil

Secret Service will be all over that! Of course, if the SS got serious about checking into this guy he might finger you and they would start looking into your story. On second thought, maybe this isn't such a great idea. Fun little thought experiment, though.
