Hello all. I just signed up. I was corresponding with 'someone' I'd met on another forum. We IMed & he even started calling me. He lived in the states. He was taking a trip to the UK to try to win a contract with someone regarding his 'antiques business'. Unfortunately, he lost one of his bags on the way... the one (of course) with his credit card in it. The story goes on & on... & on...

Anyway, a friend gave me this website. So, hello all. I want to be prepared if anything like this happens again.

welcome Ob, glad to hear you didnt fall for it. have a good ol read and you will learn a few tricks, just remember if you want to take part in the fun, to bait safe , dont use your real life details or email.

If you dont plan on taking part, and just want some good info, then you should also check out our sister site, www.scamwarners.com they will look after you there with plenty of good information and things to look out for.

Thank you! The email address he gave me was [email protected]. I wanted so badly to believe he was for real! He seemed so nice & was very handsome... at least the pics he sent me were. And no, they weren't of a model... these were of an actual person. Whether or not it was actually him, I'm not sure.

He said he was originally from Sweden & that he'd moved to the US 15 years ago with his younger brother (who was 5 at the time they moved... he was 25), after his parents were murdered by relatives over property.

Then he had a son (whose pics he also sent to me) from an American who tragically died in a car accident 4 1/2 years ago. He said he now raises his son alone. They have a dog & live in Big Spring, TX. He was quite religious... telling me he prays to God to find his soulmate. He called me angel, baby, etc., very frequently.

He gave me a phone number (I checked the area code & it was out of the TX area) & I gave him mine. He called me, but it was from another number (this area code was out of LA, CA). When I called him back, I got voice mail. He called me back (number withheld) & told me to call the number he'd given me to prove he was for real. Then he called me back, "to save me the money of the call". He had an EXTREMELY THICK accent. I'd never spoken to a Swede before, so I can't tell you if it was, indeed, a Swedish accent.

He flew to the UK last week with his son to bid for a contract dealing with his antiques business. He told me, after he got there, that a piece of luggage was stolen & it contained his credit card. He said that it'd been used as well. He told me the bank froze that card but that he only had the cash he had on him. He did say he had round-trip tickets to get back home.

He never actually ASKED me to send money, but kept broaching the subject of how the bank had approved a loan, but he needed someone to deposit the money into their account & send him the money. I know enough about scammers to know NEVER to do this. So I refused. He said I don't trust him & that he wasn't asking me to do it. I told him he was trying to guilt me into doing it. He said he wouldn't even allow me to do it, if I'd offered. A couple of minutes later, he said he had to get dinner for him & his son. He disappeared & I haven't seen or heard from him again.

He had kept talking about coming to visit me. How we would be so good together. I'm furious about people using others' emotions to widdle money out of them!! I feel used!

There's a good chance he's trying the same story on others too.

Scammers love to play on the emotions of their intended victims. Often that's the more successful ones too. One more reason why we enjoy messing with them Twisted Evil

Thanks everyone. As much as I'd really like to believe this guy wasy genuine, I've read to many others' scam reports to know that he is, indeed, a scammer. He played with my heart & emotions. That ticks me off to NO END!!! Mad

Welcome Observer! I'm a Swede (and moved to the US, but I was 9 and not 15 like the scammer's brother). I could tell you if his accent was really thick or not. Most Swedes know English to some degree and it's not very often that you'll find one that can't speak English. Swedes do have a unique accent when they speak English but you can still understand them even if they do mispronounce certain words. This might be just me, but I really don't think his accent could be extremely thick and be a Swede (English is a mandatory subject in schools in Sweden and most of us start from 4 grade on). So my guess is that he really wasn't a Swede. You should put the headers of his emails through an Ip address website to see where he really is from. http://ip-adress.com

EDIT: Flesner is a Scottish surname not a Swedish surname. Although there are German variants of this name, it's not a surname Swedes have but I wouldn't be too surprised if there were a few with that last name. Weley definitely not a Swedish name either. (In fact I'm almost certain almost nobody has that name unless it was generated from a baby name website.)

I saved his VM messages on my cell. They'll stay there for about 10 more days. I can barely understand a few words he says. Whatever accent it is... it's VERY thick!!

And his brother was 5 when he supposedly moved here... the scammer was 25.

Also, scammer lived in TX while his 20 year old brother lived in CA (they apparently had lived there first). When I asked if he could use his brother's account, he said his brother was in the hospital. Now why would you travel to the UK while your brother (that you raised as your own) was in a hospital???

Header resolves to Lagos, Nigeria (surprise, surprise). Area codes are Los Angeles and Houston (but you already knew that). So it looks like the Nigerian lad has contacts in the states. Not uncommon.

^^^It's probably best you didn't. Because like any other criminal this guy will have no problem stabbing/shooting you dead. It's best to keep your distance from the lad and "pretend" your coming to give him the money but you're in a neighboring country (or even further) and it will take you 2 weeks+ to get there. Excuses slow it down more, and better yet get him to travel for you.

EDIT: Also, is there a way you could upload the voice messages so that we could hear them?

One of the mantras that we chant here is "bait safe" and as a result I would suggest simply ignoring this lad. Block him from your email and block him from your IM if possible. If you would like a mentor, request one in the mentor request thread. If you would like to bait a love scammer, we have lots of fresh ones for you. Laughing
