Scam mail merge

The following just landed in my catcher:

They have issued me a notice to contact the next of kin, or the amount will be forfeited.
Am proposing to you, to seek your consent to present you as the next-of-kin, so that the proceeds of this account can be transferred to you. Then we can share the fund(five million dollars), on a mutually agreed-upon percentage. All legal requirements to back up your claim as my client's next-of-kin will be provided. All I require is your honest cooperation to enable us see this through. If this offends your moral values, do accept my apology

Looks like this lad has run a mail merge. I'm sure its been done before but it's a new one on me.

I get mail merge letters fairly often now. The lads take responses and add them to the mail database for mail merge.

I have won the Toyota recall Lottery, the UK National Lottery, The Swiss Internet Lottery, and the Google UK lottery. Lottery scams abound with mail merge. I have not shrunk it enough yet to use it, but my Avitar on another bait site is using the winning certificate from Google UK. I'll compress it slightly more her when I get a chance and use it as an avitar. The Google certificate is really nice looking and suitable for framing in my cube at work.

I'll have to look at it again to remember just how many Pounds Sterling the award is for.

Several lotteries love to use Mail Merge.

Because most of my baiting is done with only a first name, I get very few Next of Kin letters with the surname. I tend to drive off the Next of Kin scams by writing back and mentioning they didn't provide the Surname of the deceased. I don't know of anyone that recently died etc.. What was the surname? Maybe it's on my Mom's side of the family. This often kills the scam with no reply.

I will probably see something like that one day, mbl. Some idiot will forget to do the merge and just send the form letter.

In the last few days I have had several of these, the best was addressed to me and quoted a relative of the same surname who had died and left me money.

These scams are so much more common than they were a while ago.
