Now that it's more or less over, let's count hands, shall we? Did you chuckle, did you believe, did you find yourself pleasantly distracted from what you wanted to do on this site the evening before, does the experience make you feel better about 419Eater and its mission, have "management" gone up in your opinion?

Well I was stung twice... Rover got me twice, the devious s**t.

My opinion of management has never been high and this hasn't changed it. Laughing

I certainly was distracted, and it's nice to have a bit of a riddle about the place - they weren't giving anything away even when I guessed half of it.

I did express an early concern that the conduct of some of the mods regarding "Steward" would put soome newbies off, but other than that, it was... different, shall we say? Twisted Evil

From my long-time lurker humble point of view, it was hilarious. heck, I even joined in Very Happy

I have to admit that, for a few seconds, I was afraid it was real, but then reason got the better of me and I started to happily spam along with Technomancer Very Happy

All in all, a good prank, albeit not too credible. Orson Welles did better back then Wink

Every year since I've been a member, a lot of members seem to have enjoyed the fun and there are always a few wet blankets. Not unlike most days, I guess. Wink

It's nice to blow off a little steam now and again. I'm sorry if we drove off a few promising new members, but something tells me we'll muddle through somehow.

I know of one guy who not only believed Rover was leaving, he took full credit for running him off the site. For that hilarious moment alone, the whole thing was worth it. But then again, every day is April Fool's day for that guy. Laughing

I won't miss steward though, that's for sure.

Edit: I am curious to hear opinions, critical or otherwise. Feel free to speak your mind: steward is safely locked up so the consequences should be somewhat limited. Wink

It was a good ruse. You need to curb the enthusiasm a little toward the culmination. I began to detect the overflow about 2 days ago. Rover retiring was a good twist though that distracted me from the steward issue.

Funny part is, I was desparately trying to ellict information from steward as to the nature of his "baiting techniques" in an attempt to gain legal ground on him. Embarassed

It was great fun. I smelled a rat when Steward re-entered with that toast face, that was a bit over the top, SOOI. Then the mods communicating over the forum: 'You have PM' and pissing off each other in public is not how I know Eater. Instinctively I just knew Fixya would never have let this happen. Wink

If it had been played out a bit more subtile I would have fallen for it, no doubt about that. Still: I loved the reactions and I'm sure the mod room is flooding with tears of laughter. Laughing

^^ We had to balance the absurdity somewhat by not making it too believable. As many like to point out (thanks!) not everyone comes to Eater for fun and games, so if it looked too much like a revolt, then it starts to affect our larger purpose.

We all know Google is not re-naming itself "Topeka" but it's fun to laugh at the notion in any event.

And yes, the Mods only do their fighting in back-stabbing PMs to Rover... Wink

I read much more than I post.... but I had a great time with it. I didn't follow all the threads around... it was a lot to keep up with! Maybe all the mods bitching each other out was a bit much, someone new who showed up and saw that might not have hung around. But the rest of it was a lot of fun, and reminded me of why I can't leave this place.

I'm with the ones that think it went on too long and too far. It just stopped being funny to me, and in the process, it also detracted from the "high moral tone" normally set by "management" here.

And not only am I stuck with SOOI's avatar, but my title (the one I had to beg for) is gone, and my Messages indicator is stuck on "You have new PM".

^^I'll fix your messages (which has nothing to do with 4/1). PM Rover or Lotta whatever title you would like and they will sort you out. You can change your avatar to anything you would like.

"Far too long" can probably be attributed to the Stewardians, not the mods and admins. Wink
