Sorry if I should be posting this to the Love/Romance forum.....
I've baited a couple of Nigerian scammers over the years and have had some luck in getting basic trophies just by following the advice in this forum.
This past week, for an unknown reason, I've been receiving quite a few spam emails of the typical Russian bride scam. There is no question that scammers are behind those emails: email headers point to the Netherlands and to the UK, and Google reports that part of the text come from the typical Russian bride scam script.
I'd like to bait these people with the only objective of getting a trophy of some sort - I'm not overly ambitious because I'm quite new. A couple of funny pictures would be enough.
The problem is that I'm reasonably familiar with what to do with the typical Nigerian scam but not so much on how to handle (e.g., replies, etc.) Russian bride scams. I've reviewed this and other sites but have been unable to find something clear-cut.
Any suggestions? |

Hello Bond, and welcome to the romance department
Russians and Nigerian love lads have a completely different style. Russians can have scripts that last 20 mails before even the slightest hint to money comes up. It's very hard to get them off script, most of them just send mail after mail, and adding perhaps one personal sentence in each one. They hardly read yours. It's far from easy to get trophy's out of them, since most of the time they send along model pictures with the first 5 mails. Which in almost every case, they aren't. So getting them to hold up a sign can be very hard, as they mostly aren't the people they show pictures of.
That being said, it isn't impossible. Albator (click) for example has succeeded to get a trophy from a vlad. (I believe it was Ukrainian) |

Thanks, Caligula .....by the way, "Caligula" is a great movie
Anyway, thanks for the advice. I've already received quite a few emails unbelievable long from two "future brides", the one based in the Netherlands (according to IP address) has the typical tone and terrible grammar of a Russian scam; the other one in London with very good English.
The issue of the difficulty in getting a trophy is dissapointing. I'd like to get more than just closing down their bank accounts... Albator messages are quite insightful so thank you for the link. I'll see how things develop - perhaps with some much "love" shown in the emails, I may be able to get a naughty picture but, frankly, I'd be happy with anything for a laugh. |
