Hi all, I haven't been around this forum for a good while but thought I'd share some great news! A US (KY) based craigslist fake check ring has just been busted! It hasn't hit the news yet but there should be some media attention around it as the FBI is involved, as well as the Kentucky State Police and local police.

My father fell for a craigslist fake check scam (yeah yeah I know...he lost his job and needed cash and isn't computer savvy) and the stupid scammer used her real name to pick up the money here in the US in KY. I did some web hunting with the info he had on her and dug up a bunch of stuff, including her myspace page, and turned all the info over to the authorities. The next day, my father received a call from the local PD that the FBI has been looking for this woman but didn't have a location on her until they got our info. She was arrested today! It turns out that her myspace friends list is full of her scam ring associates from around the country and they are being sought by police as I type this.

So score one for the good guys! Ill update this thread when the news reports surface. And kudos to the police at all levels for acting on these scammers, particularly during this rough economy where every dollar counts. Though most of the info I dug up wasn't hard to find...
Also a thanks to 419eater because I learned some very valuable skills here in the past that helped put these people behind bars! Take care and be safe.

I'm guessing it was a check mule. Do PM the information over our mods so they can compare it against other info we may already have. You never know, there might be more people that could go down with her.

Well done, devil! Glad to see some of these parasites get what they deserve. Let's hope the prosecutors can make it stick and put these jerks out of commission for a good long time.

Thanks for the kind words.

It goes to show that people should always be encouraged to contact the police if they are scammed. We know that way too many people are embarrassed by it and just eat the loss and never report anything. This is a mistake! There are authorities following these people and every bit of information helps. Who knows, the piece of info they pass on may just be the piece that lands the scammer in jail.
