It's so cute!
I wish I knew what the lyrics were in English, though. My googlesearch was not productive. |

I know right!? Well after digging deeper on Youtube, the young girl grew up a little more, but still sings with mum and dad.
This is a very good song, but very sad sounding; I may not know Mongolian either, but from the title in english obviously, her dad is gone far away and she misses him very much..aww!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGv5f4rIS38&NR=1
Also there is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzuP1G4iQH0
A kind of documentary about her and her singing. The first part is already the same song I first posted, but if you watch it through there are some other interesting stuff. I kinda want their CD, will have to get wifey to help me through all the Chinese, since there is also Chinese songs/titles.
I think they are from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region part of China.
[edit]
Yea lyrics search turned up nothing, and all you can really get is a title translation from google. *sigh* |

I love 'Father in Ulan Bator' - it's so good!
Have you seen this one?:

I am not (absolutely not) the sort of person who likes cutsey children videos - but this is so sweet! I want to adopt the entire family. |

Yea it just gets to you whether you like it or not, hehe. Yea I also like that one. So it seems that girl has had quite a singing career, and now is well established. I really wouldn't mind buying some of their albums, but as I said before, I have to get help from wifey, since I can't read Chinese. |

I had a look on Amazon.co.uk this morning, to see if one could buy albums here. Answer: no. Not through Amazon, anyway. |

'Contemporary version'? Personally, I prefer the images of the plains and the horses.... probably far removed from the real lives of the singers, in reality, but it's still a nice image....... |

Well yea, but I wasn't focusing on the imagery, but the younger version of her singing the same song. |

Re: the second link - so the girl is his neice and not his daughter? Or is that a different girl?
I tried entering 'Buren Bayaer' into Amazon search.
It asked me if I meant 'Burn Babar'.
Apparently there is a book called 'Should we burn Babar?'
No, that is not what I meant! |

I don't know, since I thought it was her at an older age. *shrug*
Unfortunately it looks like none of the western music outlets will carry it, unless you ask them to 'special order' it. The only alternative is (if you know Chinese, or know someone who does), have them search on the Chinese search engine baidu.com for any other information.
The only other problem is buying CDs from such far away places can be rather expensive. *sigh* |

Ok, I found another version of 'Father in Ulan Bator', with country scenes (no contemporary scenes), but with the younger version of the girl singing. Still, I don't think it matters that I'm posting the same song again. This is really a good song, and I would love to buy their albums. Their songs are just amazing, and at times touching. Doesn't matter whether or not you understand the language, because you can feel it's impact just as strongly.

This one: Father's Prairie, Mother's River
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riaP4QhvYi4&feature=related
uses much of the same video shots, but with a different song. I think (without any knowledge of what the lyrics are, mind you!) that the video seems to suit this one better - though it, to me, is not such a good song as Father in Ulan Bator.
Edited to add: I've just found this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqzvT1RkP5I
Discovery documentary on the family - in English! I've only just started watching it: but there's some English subtitling of lyrics too! Parts 2 and 3 are on the right. |

*UPDATE*
I managed to find the lyrics and translation to "Lucky Three Treasure"
Chinese version:
Quote: |
–bà bà , tài yáng chū lái yuè liàng huí jiā le mā ?
–duì a.
–xīng xīng chū lái , tài yáng qù nǎ lǐ lā ?
–zài tiān shàng
–wǒ zěn me zhǎo yě zhǎo bú dào tā .
–tā huí jiā le.
tài yáng, xīng xīng, yuè liàng jiù shì jí xiáng de yì jiā .
–mā mā , yè zí lü4 le shěn me shí hòu kāi huā ?
–děng xià tiān lái le.
–huā er hóng le guǒ zí néng gòu zhāi mā ?
–děng qiū tiān dào le.
–guǒ shí zhòng zài tǔ lǐ néng fā yá mā ?
–tā huì zhǎng dà de.
huā er, yè zí , guǒ shí jiù shì jí xiáng de yì jiā .
–bǎo bèi , bà bà xiàng tài yáng zhào zhuó mā mā
–nà mā mā ne?
–mā mā xiàng lü4 yè tuō zhuó hóng huā .
–nà wǒ ne?
–nǐ xiàng zhǒng zi yí yàng zhèng zài fā yá .
wǒ mén sān gè jiù shì jí xiáng rú yì de yì jiā .
– Baba, When the sun rises, is the moon back at home?
– That is right.
– When the star is out, where is the sun?
– in the sky.
– I look for it, but I cannot find it.
– It goes home.
The sun, the moon, the star are a lucky family.
– Mama, leaves are green, when does the flower bloom?
– Wait till summer comes.
– When flowers are red, can we pick the fruits?
– Wait till autumn comes.
– Fruit is planted in the soil, can it grow up?
– It will grow up.
Flower, Leaf, and fruit are a lucky family.
– Baby, your daddy is like the sun, shining over your mom.
– How about Mommy?
– Mommy is like the green leaf, holding the red flower.
– Then how about me?
– You are like a seed, you are growing up.
We three are a lucky happy family.
