I've been a member of the site for a while now. Just don't have time to bait anymore. But from time to time I do enjoy reading the more imaginative baits.

Yesterday, my assistant tells me that his wife had applied to be "secret shopper" a few months back and had just got the position the day before. She was sent a check for $2500 and was to keep $200 for herself and send the rest via WU to another person.

Bells went off in my mind immediately. A quick phone call to her bank verified that the check was fraudulent. Although she had already cashed the check, she was able return the money to the bank without penalty.

This is a young family with two children who don't have the resources to pay back $2500. Thank God they were able to stop the deal before the money was sent by WU. Just a little too close!

Spicoli was on the phone to the "lawyer in the UK". small world.

PLEASE note, that sometimes it can take 90 days OR LONGER for the bank to realize it is fraudulent. There are legitimate mystery shopper companies - but they DO NOT contact people at random via email soliciting applications, and they DO NOT send checks for thousands of dollars in good faith that the recipient will send their money back to them as a means of testing wire transfer services. These are ALWAYS a scam, whether the bank realizes it yet or not.
