Looks like the Seattle Center.

It's the Science Fiction Museum.

Slightly got it right
this link ( http://www.empsfm.org/ ) shows your disc on a stick building in the first picture in the right corner when you load the webpage.

also take a look at http://www.empsfm.org/images/visit/building/purplewall.jpg . Seems like exactly the thing you linked , but during construction

More importantly though : wouldn't that large disc thing make the most awesome zombie fort ?

It's in Minneapolis (sp?) I think and the building in the background is a church :p

I'll give you a clue. The picture was taken from outside a pub called 'The Minerva'. There can't be many of those.
