looked somewhat like

Is that some clever randomized coding to be able to attribute a scam mail to the receipient?

- to instant ditch a reply that doesn't match
or enable them to identify RL persona as baiters

I would bet it is merely a randomly generated sequence of letters to fool spam filters.

are you asking 'is this a code which is unique to a single recipient?'

if that is the question, try replying from two different accounts, and see if they write back to both.

My catcher account received two mails like this a couple of days ago. Both from the same sender and same IP address, but sent over an hour apart.

One had the subject: Reward 2010; - - - RMNJEUTMYO
and the other one: Reward 2010; - - - SLHYOENXWE

So I guess they were not identifying the recipient with these.

I don't want to guess the number - But, lad, isn't that the best fun to be had with MoneyGram reference numbers?
