Try imagining the scenario, and most of you will be familiar with it, even the pros:

You're happily baiting and have a few lads on the line. Nice isnt it?
To save yourself a little time, because we know the golden rule, Thou Shalt Not Do More Work Than Thy Lad, you decide to use the same or similar modality on them. Suddenly, two of them jump off the line and don't respond back. Arse! All your fun gone and now you have to dangle your prospective hook back in the water looking for another biter.

There is a chance, that those 2 lads are in fact the same lad, because apparently they have alts and use false names. (The Devious Swines!) Evil or Very Mad

Wouldn't it be nice, if you had a little bit of tech that told you who each lad was? or at the very least, told you which alts he used?

Witchcraft and sorcery I hear you cry! Please put down your burning torches and pitchforks!

I am creating a spreadsheet so that we can keep track. Once its in a reasonable shape I'll leave it in the modality section and keep it (as best as I can), up to date
Obviously, this breaks the Golden rule. Well, yeah, technically it could, unless you give me a hand, problem shared, friend in need, blah blah blah.

#file removed#

It's a simple little spread sheet, and it requires just 2 items, IP & email address.
There are 2 additional columns which can be used, if you wish for Lad's character name and comments. (ie. really gullible, telephone, etc) - if they get filled in, even better, but not 100% necessary
So it's as simple as I can make it. I've added a few so you get the general idea for when you open it

But I hear some of the new guys shout out, 'how do we find out an IP address?' Well it does look like some thing you might see if you asked for how the Enterprise works, but what you need is the handydandy site:
The HandyDandy Site
Basically copy and paste the header in, enter the captcha code and it makes sense of what you've pasted and even provides a little map Very Happy

Once it's done, save and close it and email it to me:
#removed#
and I'll do the shuffling and sorting.
The idea is that you get a lad on the line, you can find out who he is, where he is, his alts, and if the comments have been filled in, what type of Muppet he is.

Gmail and other IP strippers, please put in as '0' as you wont be able to get an ID off them, but we may still be able attach them via phone number or unusual name

Yes it breaks the golden rule, but then it's really more of a guideline

So if you think this will come in handy, if you think you yourself would use it, how about giving a little hand and populating the sheet?

I think Nurse Nasty mentioned this idea a long time ago and we couldnt get it off the ground for whatever tech reasons

I like the idea....
But do I get it wright; I bait a lad he bites and I will look up his IP and send the information (IP, email, name, phone) to you. And then you will put it into a big spreadsheet and make it available to all of us?

That's the general idea. Though it would probably be easier to put the spreadsheet in a svn-repository and have contributers install tortoise-svn. Someone could write up an image-tutorial for the set-up. Once it's set up, you just right click on the folder the spreadsheet is in, click 'svn update', make your additions, save, click 'svn commit' and then everyone can check out the new version.

That eliminates the need for a single person plowing through countless mails and updating a spreadsheet all on his own.

What I said in PM's was that we have a system like this already half-built with renewed interest from clever people, so no need to go re-invent the wheel. Laughing

That's one you could do it.
Anther way is to submit it after a successful bait

A way to look at it is, you look up his details so after the bait you really want to wind him up, you can bait him at another one of his email addresses

Master of Puppets, it's an excellent idea, but I have no idea how to set up a svn - This could be the reason why it didn't get off the ground properly last time
