AA Ashley Consultants Ltd ([email protected])
Sent: 27 January 2010 08:15:16 PM
To:
Hello,
My name is Patricia Cowell; I work with AA Ashley Consultants Ltd in England.
We are conducting a standard process investigation involving a client who shares the same name with you and also the circumstances surrounding investments made by this client at Lloyds TSB.

The Lloyds TSB Private Banking client died intestate and nominated no next of kin to inherit the title over the investments made with Lloyds TSB. The essence of this communication with you is to request that you provide us information on three issues:

1-Are you aware of any relative/relation having the same surname, whose last known contact address was Brussels Belgium?
2-Are you aware of any investment of considerable value made by such a person at Lloyds TSB Private Banking Ltd?
3-Can you establish beyond reasonable doubt your eligibility to assume status of next of kin to the deceased?

It is pertinent that you inform us ASAP whether or not you are familiar with this personality that we may put an end to this communication with you and our inquiries surrounding this personality.

You must appreciate that we are constrained from providing you with more detailed information at this point. Please respond as soon as possible to afford us the opportunity to close this investigation.

Thank you for accommodating our enquiry.

Yours sincerely,
Ms. Patricia Cowell
AA Ashley Consultants Ltd.
For: Lloyds TSB Private Banking Ltd Clients.

I know you'll be looking for headers, not sure how to get them from Hotmail.

Yes it's a scam.

Yes the headers will help in giving a location of this well educated lad.

I can't find a website for A A Ashley Consultants Ltd

a quick search of the forums ....
To make MSN Hotmail display all header lines:

1. Select Options from the top MSN Hotmail navigation bar.

2. Make sure the Mail category is selected.

3. Choose Mail Display Settings.

4. Set Message Headers to Full.

5. Click OK.

Hi

as29550.net is a UK hosting company (Blueconnex)
The sender appears to be connecting from the static address of a customer of Blueconnex, based in Durham, UK
It's likely that the message is being sent from a compromised computer (it could be the actual customer/user, but this is less likely, IMHO).

AA Ashley Consulting is a genuine company based in Luton, UK, but it appears to be moribund and doesn't have any internet presence (web or email addresses) that I can find. No telephone numbers are easily available. This is probably why this company has been chosen as an initial front, with AA Ashley being blissfully unaware.

Ignoring all the smokescreen of aaashleyconsultants, the actual reply-to email address is [email protected], which is a free email address, usable by anyone and which is often used for scamming. If you were to send a tickler to the consultant.com address, they may reply from their actual location, and with a more revealing ip address.

regards

nosetweaker

Ah - just googled 46-48 Rothesay Road Luton
It is a chartered accountants, Foxley Kingham, so there are lots of limited companies that have this address as their registered office.

94.76.212.230 is a suspected proxy. Try here:

http://whatismyipaddress.com/staticpages/index.php/lookup-ip

The good English of the mail means that somebody with good English originally wrote that script. The Lad sending it, however, may not be the one who wrote it. Once the Lad comes 'off-script' and composes his own mails, you will see how good or bad his English is!

Quote:
We are conducting a standard process investigation involving a client who shares the same name with you

Note that:

(a) Nowhere in this letter is it stated what that 'same name' might be. That is because the Lad doesn't know your name. And because he has sent this email to hundreds of people.

(b) This is not the way a 'next-of-kin' is established: emailing strangers who share the same (unmentioned) surname!

If you said you had the most common surname in the world, the Lad would still decide that you were next-of-kin and the rightful inheritor .... after you have paid his fees.

Is there a potential mass scambait here?

Somebody gets the lad on the hook, and then inadvertently mentions it to somebody else in their family. Other family members get to hear on the grapevine and start coming out of the woodwork, wanting a piece of the action, lawyers get involved haggling over the split, historians crawling over the genealogy, family double crossing each other, insider deals and 'trips' to Africa to see the lad and cut the others out to secure the inheritance, etc?

[Although, as a complete newb, I wouldn't be qualified to orchestrate such a thing Embarassed ]

^^Nosetweaker, ask Feegle nicely and you might be allowed to have a ride on his scammer - you can play all the roles yourself if you do. Remember to think like a victim, not like a baiter!

I really don't have the experience for something that sophisticated just yet. I am taking baby steps with single characters until the dampness evaporates from behind my ears (and I might have to call in a mentor at any moment!).

@nosetweaker

I like your idea of a massbait with people having the same surname, of one huge family, all of them keen to get hands on the monnies, and convincing the lad to be the only right NoK, and he should forget any others of the family, if they write to him.

I have answered this nice Lady, and also openend a new thread in SCAMBAITING HELP, HINTS & TIPS, because there the details can not be found by google.

A few minutes of amusement can be had by replying using an email account that doesn't give your name, and being careful not to give it in your emails either.

It is possible that he does know what your name is, if for instance he compiled a list of emails of everyone having the same surname. A common name would be good here, because the list would be longer. It isn't likely though, if he did that then he'd give the name. It is far more likely that he's sent it off at random and he expects to find your surname from your mails.

I sincerely doubt he knows my name as the email address it was sent to was set up with my online nick only, no surname attached Razz

Replied "I'm interested, tell me more", and SURPRISE! The deceased person has my character's last name!

Definetely a scam, and a bad one. Let's see how this continues.
