Hmm, lessee... the US are the only country in the world which still hangs on its antiquated measuring system.
With a population of what? 300 millions?
99% of the rest of the world (up to 6.8 billions, if I recall correctly) uses the metric system. |

Edit to add: A few days ago 'twas about -32C here and taking the wind factor into account it had felt like -40C. At noon. Not to mention the 60+ cm of fresh snow. |

Back on topic: We've got 40cm* of snow! Yay! And while it's fun to drift around the corners with the 4x4 Subaru I've borrowed for a few days (even more so with an increasingly pale girlfriend in the passenger seat), I really can't wait to get my front-wheel drive with electronic traction control back.

^^ Let's just say it's not unlike a smaller version of the Landrover Defender, in that it gets you from A to B no matter what's inbetween, and absolutely nothing in the car cares if your motoric skills are... underdeveloped in comparison to your muscular strength.
(Which is also the reason it's a complete PITA to drive for normal people.)
What's impressed me the most so far was when the snowplow buried it behind a considerable amount of snow over night. The Subaru approach: start car, put car in reverse, drive straight through wall of snow. Even if I were feeling lucky enough to actually try that with my Audi, I doubt the result would be the same. |

Having seen all the fuss in the UK about the recent chilly spell, in Germany they've said to stock up with 4 days supplies and stay at home, Frankfurt airport cancelled over 200 flights and Air Berlin put one off the end of the runway at Berlin.
The French shut the border crossing due to too much snow, the Germans are running out of grit, where will it all end?
Springtime probably.

Kabuto, aspiring Mod, "the post has deviated" is what you meant, I think.
The Metric system is why I have to keep two sets of sockets/wrenches for one vehicle. Truckin' along on a repair and lo what's this? A metric nut in an otherwise SAE car???
After 3 days we finally broke the 0F barrier for an overnight low! Snow cover is minimal which means my lawn will be dead for summer with next to no moisture for spring. I think the Midwest US is going to see California like wild fires but larger. Remember Peshtigo!
@SSA-we fish on ice here. I commend you on the kayak! Especially with the lunkers you can pull out of the water! |
