If you search-and-replaced "Alien" with "Zombie" you'd get exactly the same movie. You wouldn't need to change the plot one iota. In fact it would be more believable.

We know that Aliens mature fast, but that film has them maturing in minutes or less.
It has zero character development.
The predator would make more sense as a crazed, psychopathic zombie hunter.
In fact the predator is entirely optional. Nothing he does has any effect except destroying any evidence that could lead to plot development.
It has minimal plot and works on action, gore and shock.

It's a bad zombie movie.

In a sense an alien is a zombie, in that it converts a human being into a monster. It's a pretty weak correspondence, but it's there. You've got infection, incubation and turning, followed by flesh-eating, so you've got all the plot development opportunities used in zombie movies. It's a pity that AVP R didn't use any of them.

I'm with Thud on that one. AVPR was a pile of crap.

If anyone here is a hardcore fan of the early AVP Comics by Darkhorse, there was a series called AVP / Earth Wars - That should have been the movie.

I have no idea why people don't listen to me and make me resort to violence.

Now, zombies and Predator... hmm

NN I am surprised at your lackadaisical response to changing the word alien with zombie.

@Thud - you can't just change the word alien with zombie and call it a zombie movie. It wasn't a zombie movie. That is just crazy talk.

For one zombies don't fly spaceships, have invisible cloaking devices, shoulder fired cannons that are self aiming in addition to a large arsenal of cool weapons like the whip or the burning net. Not to mention the rest of the predator's technology.

The aliens are nothing like zombies. I don't think the eat flesh. All they want to do it put a baby inside of you. They move fast, are very large, very strong, organized, and bleed acid.

AVPR may have been a bad movie but it was not a bad zombie movie because it was not a zombie movie.

I have no idea what you mean by converts a human being into a monster and there was no infection and no flesh eating.

Also, alien movies are sci-fi and zombie movies are horror. Regardless, aliens are aliens and zombies are zombies. I can understand calling it a bad sci fi movie or a bad alien movie but I have no idea how you can consider this a zombie movie. There were no zombies.

So where does the biomass come from? How do they grow from little wormy thing to big shiney thing without eating? In the original movie, IIRC, most of the crew disappeared. Only the captain was found (in a deleted scene).

Sorry thud. No way am I letting you have the Zombie = Alien argument.

The ways of the Alien are not well known. We can only speculate as to what it eats.
There is every possibility that it is just a very pissed off vegetarian.

Zombies, on the other hand, are a known quantity.

No matter how you try to justify it or color it up with similar plots, a movie about aliens IS NOT a zombie movie and never will be.

Toy Story is a zombie movie. Not a great one, or very scary, but it has it's moments.

in 'alien resurrection' the commander of the research station had part of his anatomy eaten by an alien. specifically, his brain.
after the alien struck, he reached round to grab a piece of it himself, but i don't think he intended to eat it.

I do not believe we are debating whether an alien movie is a zombie movie.

You know what, I'll let you have this one. AVPR was a really horrible zombie movie. Mainly because there were no zombies but that is beside the point.

I only like the canonical Alien movies(Alien and Aliens), both sans zombies and rightly so, those were alien movies. The rest were Hollywood's attempt at milking a dead, non-zombified cow. The predator connection originated from Marvel Comics circa late 80's early 90's, followed by arcade games then culminating in the atrocity called AVP.

How about Serpent and the Rainbow? Not a good pick but zombies are mentioned...

Is anyone else playing this bloody addictive game?

I'm level 14 doctor and all I carry is 3 different shotguns, a tin of baked beans and a lead pipe. That's all you need to survive the zombie hordes. Very Happy
