Valid MTCN sent by a scammer

First time I have seen this but a lad sent me a valid MTCN, all I had to do was pay my end and the recipient's details would be added and I would get the cash (whoopee!).

I have used it to bait other lads, works a treat, accompanied by fake WU reciepts it has them running in circles.

I believe you are meant to pm any valid MTCNs to a Mod of your choice.

^^ Fartina was right. They get them closed down. We don't want those alive because the lads could be using the same trick on victims, just like you did with the lads.

Yeah, I was told under these same circumstances not to recycle live MTCNs from lads into different baits. Evil or Very Mad

PM them to a mod instead. Smile

Really?

I got one a while back from a lad who claimed they were sending me a payment through WU and the MTCN would allow me to track the status of the payment.
Just out of curiosity, I checked it on the real WU site (ignoring the link he sent me which I assumed would be a fake) expecting it to say there was no such number. But it came back with a payment status of "Picked up".
Didn't know I should have sent that to someone though Embarassed

^^It is okay, you have only been here a month. The Mods know how to get these killed so they aren't used against victims. Leaving then where they can be used over and over is disasterous for victims.

Edit: That is why we encourage having a Mentor. I was one, but RL has been making it not possible to do. Plus they kept disappearing without a trace.

Well it has stayed live long enough to convince a second lad to make a second trip to his local WU for me!

He is away again in the morning with his crumpled WU receipt in hand, lol.

I actually checked one and it was available for pickup!
I wonder, what would happen if I were to pick up one of these?

I get a bit of pocket change, scammer loses MTCN which can be picked up.

^^ It won't be win-win by any stretch of the imagination.
You'll be required to provide valid receiver ID (per the lad transfer) to pick-up, and quite likely, will need to know the secret question/answer that is given as a failsafe to any WUxfer.

So the short story is, report any valid WUxfer (or MGxfer) to a moderator of your choice and it will be discretely dealt with.

It's funny though, it seems that the scammers have enough of these valid MTCN to hand out because alot of the emails I recieve have them in the opening email. They also have the secret question and answer in there too Wink

But yeah, I'll stack up a list of these and get them shut down.

I'll add the receiver name is something you'll need to know as well. Without that, the funds will not be released. Hence the lad will embark on the next stage of the scam: Pay the release/reactivation fees and all the money will (not) be yours.

Please remember that there are real victims out there who do believe what they see and are duped into parting with money, the faster the numbers are reported to Mods the faster they can be dealt with. You never know but you may well be saving an innocent victim each time you submit one for squashing.

No icon but a nice warm feeling instead.
